1904 (Sep) Tattersalls cover from Brewarrina (NSW) to Hobart with 2d, boxed 'DEFT 2D/FINE 2D/4D' applied and with manuscript '4d T' (obscured), Blank Base 8d block of 4 affixed and cancelled with central Hobart cds representing payment for eight similarly taxed items. Repaired spike and a few minor peripheral creases, otherwise a fine and a spectacular franking. Only five covers bearing the Blank Base 8d are recorded, this being the only multiple and generally regarded as the most important First Issue cover  | ||
