    1885-1904 POSTAGE OVERPRINTS ON STAMP DUTIES, WMK CROWN OVER NSW TYPE 1 - BLACK OVERPRINT

    Estimate: $2,000

    5/- Lilac and Green Perf. 10, traces of violet cancellation, centred lower left with traces of minor toning on reverse. The Perf. 10 stamp is of great rarity. A mint example is in the Royal Philatelic Collection and a used one in the H.L. White Collection in the Mitchell Library. No confirmed example can be traced in private hands other than the one offered here. SG 238a, unpriced mint or used

    5/- Lilac and Green Perf. 12 x 10 large part original gum and very fine other than for a minute pinhole. SG 238b, Cat. £475

    5/- Lilac and Green Perf. 12 x 10 unused without gum, and a few shortish perfs at sides

     

    Lot 739
    Estimate: $3,000 Realised Price : $2,300

    5/- Lilac and Green Perf. 12 x 10 unmounted block of four with full original gum, usual gum creases as found with this issue, centred top left with perfs at top cut by scissors. A superb and apparently unique multiple. Ex Australia Post Archives. The only other multiples which can be traced are two strips of three, one of which is in the Royal Philatelic Collection. SG 238b, Cat. £1900+

    5/- Lilac and Green Perf. 12 x 10 used (5), all cancelled at King Street, Sydney and very scarce despite the modest catalogue value. Also optd. ‘SPECIMEN’ or ‘Specimen’ (McCredie Types 7 and 11), and optd. ‘REPRINT’ (3). Also two forged opts. on perf. 13 stamps. Some small perf. faults and minor toning on one or two stamps, but a scarce group (12)

    10/- Lilac and Claret Perf. 12, large part original gum and strong colour, centred a little to the right. A rare stamp. SG 239b, Cat,. £1200

    10/- Lilac and Claret Perf. 12 centred top right otherwise fine and cancelled Sydney duplex. SG 239b, Cat. £225

     

    Lot 743
    Estimate: $180 Realised Price : $140

    10/- Lilac and Claret Perf. 12 optd. ‘SPECIMEN’ (2) or ‘Specimen’ (2, one with straight edge at left) (McCredie Types 7 and 11), one or two small perf. faults, but generally fine with large part original gum. Also a forged opt. on a perf. 13 stamp (5)

        

    Lot 744
    Estimate: $5,000 Realised Price : $3,800

    £1 Rose-lilac and Claret Perf. 12 from top of sheet with imperforate upper margin, large part original gum and strong colour. Centred lower right and with some paper adhesions on reverse, with cracked gum resulting in gum creases including a strong horizontal one across stamp, not visible from front. A very rare stamp. SG 240a, Cat. £7000

     

    Lot 745
    Estimate: $5,000 Realised Price : $5,000

    £1 Rose-lilac and Claret Perf. 12 very fine used, centred lower right and cancelled by Sydney duplex of (J)U 25 86. Few black marks on reverse of no significance. A much rarer stamp in used condition compared to mint. The only other used example of this stamp that can be traced is the one in the H.L. White Collection in the Mitchell Library. Basset Hull records that 77 stamps from this printing were issued for use in May 1886, which accords with the date on the used stamp offered here. SG 240a, unpriced
