    Plate II 2d Blue: 1860 (12 Dec) cover from Sydney to Gladstone Queensland with imperf 2d Diadem Plate II strip of three (touched at top and right) cancelled Sydney 'NSW' duplex, endorsed 'per Telegraph', reverse with Brisbane transit and Gladstone arrival (DE 22 60) datestamps. The Imperf 2d Plate II were only issued in Queensland, and this very rare use in New South Wales was possibly by a traveller writing home. A very significant cover from the Ginger, Gordon Kaye, 'Manwood' and Stevenson Collections

    1854 6d Grey margins three sides and into at top cancelled 'N.S.W.' in concentric ovals (not tied) on 1859 (16 Mar) mourning envelope from Sydney to Hobart. Sydney despatch d.s. on reverse, and with 'SHIP LETTER INWARDS FREE' d.s. 21 MR 21 1859 in red. Attractive and clean

    1854 6d Grey and 6d Greyish-brown, both with clear to good margins, cancelled Sydney 'N.S.W.' duplex on 1859 (16 Nov) cover to Dublin (JA 13 1860 d.s. on reverse). Few ink marks on face do not detract unduly from this very unusual combination use of two different 6d printings to meet the double packet rate via Southampton.

    1859 Emergency Printing on Wmk Double-lined '8' Paper: 6d Fawn horizontal pair with good to large margins cancelled '51' of Deniliquin. Slight thin at top not affecting appearance and a scarce multiple

    1855 8d Golden Yellow three large margins and just touched at left, with 1d Carmine-vermilion with right sheet margin just touched at upper left, both cancelled and tied by Sydney dumb obliterator on 1857 (10 Apr) small envelope to Birmingham, endorsed 'per Columbian via Marseilles'. London arrival d.s. in red for 8 JU 1857 on face, and Birmingham arrival backstamp for the following day. A very attractive franking for the 9d ¼ oz. rate via Marseilles, and one of the finest of the few recorded 8d's on cover. With 1995 Holcombe cert

    1854 1/- Rosy-vermilion used with 2d Blue Laureate and 8d Orange-yellow Laureate, all with clear margins except 2d just into at top left, tied by dumb obliterators on 1854 (10 Apr) envelope from Sydney to Dublin. Endorsed 'Per Private Ship' and with manuscript '8' incoming ship letter charge, London arrival d.s 14 SP 1854 also tying adhesives. An exceptional mixed issue franking to meet the double prepaid ship letter rate to U.K. (2 x 11d), the 8d Laureate being very rare on cover. Ex 'Manwood'

    1854 1/- Rosy-vermilion (3, all with margins clear to good) used with 3d Yellow-green (cut into at right) cancelled dumb obliterators on 1858 (10 Feb) entire (no side flaps) from Sydney to Leamington, U.K., endorsed 'p Simla via Marseilles'. Arrival backstamp for AP 3 58. A rare multiple usage of the 1/- Diadem for the quintuple Marseilles rate (1-1¼oz)

    1860-72 Wmk Double-lined numerals Perf 12 1d Orange-red (left marginal), 2d Greenish-blue Plate II (both part o.g.) and 5d Dull Green (no gum), some perf faults but a scarce trio. SG 131, 134, 141, cat £770

    1860-72 Wmk Double-lined '2' 2d Perf 12 covers from Sydney to Faringdon, England, comprising Prussian Blue Plate II (3) tied by duplexes on 1860 (22 Dec) cover endorsed 'p Jedda', arrival datestamp on reverse (FE 18 61); and Dull Blue Plate I (3) tied by duplexes on 1861 (21 Dec) cover endorsed 'per Salsette', arrival datestamp on reverse (FE 19 62). Latter with recipient's endorsement on face, otherwise both fine and attractive (2 covers)

    1860-72 Wmk Double-lined '6' Perf 13 6d Purple used with 4d DLR strip of three all tied by '507' ray type numerals to 1871 (23 Feb) envelope with contents from Tocumwal to Tennessee, U.S.A., 'SAN FRANCISCO CAL/10' d.s (APR 13) on face, and four transit d.s on reverse. Endorsed 'Via England Overseas Route' but apparently underpaid and sent by the trans-Pacific route. Small portion of back flap missing and stain on face (apparently where an adhesive was removed prior to posting)

    1860-72 Wmk Double-lined '12' Perf 13 1/- Rose-carmine used with 4d DLR tied by Sydney 'N.S.W.' in concentric ovals duplex to 1869 (31 Dec) entire to Libourne, France, endorsed 'Via Marseilles', and with unframed 'P.D.' in red. Arrival d.s. on reverse for 24 FEVR 70. Some flap faults still a fine example of the 1/4d rate for a ½oz. letter via Marseilles

    1860-72 Wmk Double-lined '12' Perf 13 1/- Carmine (2 in differing shades) and 8d Red-orange tied by Sydney 'N.S.W.' in concentric oval duplexes to 1864 (22 Aug) entire to London, endorsed 'p Madras via Marseilles' with arrival d.s (OC 17 64) on face. Filing crease barely affects one 1/- stamp. A scarce combination of adhesives, 2/8d being the 1oz. rate to U.K. via Marseilles in force from July to November 1864 only, ex Trevor Davis

    1860-72 Wmk Double-lined '12' Perf 13 1/- Carmine with 1871 Wmk Crown over NSW (I) 1d tied by Sydney 'N.S.W.' in concentric ovals duplexes to 1874 (16 May) mourning envelope (flap missing) to London. Small mss '1/1' at left, the rate representing the rare 1/1d U.K. rate due the imposition of the retaliatory 'Galle Penny' charge between February 1874 and May 1875. Ex J.S. White and illustrated in the 'The Postal History of NSW' at page 328
