    1d Orange-red (left marginal), 2d Greenish-blue Plate II (both part o.g.) and 5d Dull Green (no gum), some perf faults but a scarce trio. SG 131, 134, 141, cat 770

    The used collection, comprising 1d (19), 2d Plate I (30, one mint but stained), 2d Plate II (17), 3d (14), 5d (3), 6d (23), 1/- (10) all catalogued shades represented and incl a number of pairs. All the stamps have been carefully picked and are much above average for this difficult issue and many superb examples are present. Also, the small group of covers, comprising 1d on 1861 West Maitland drop letter, 1d pair on 1861 cover from Sydney to West Maitland, 6d Grey-brown on 1860 cover to England and 6d Violet on 1862 cover to Adelaide. A very useful lot with very high catalogue value (97 + 4 covers)

    1d Orange-red and 1d Scarlet tied by ray type '36' numerals on 1861 (9 Mar) envelope from Braidwood to Sydney, showing despatch and arrival datestamps on reverse. Fine, and an unusual combination of two 1d printings

    2d Plate II group of three covers, comprising 1860 (20 Feb) entire Grafton ('90' ray type numeral') to Sydney, 1861 (21 Jan) entire Sydney to Casino with two singles in differing shades, and 1861 (4 Feb) envelope Sydney to Liverpool Plains (Goonoo Goonoo backstamp). Generally fine (3)

    2d Plate II covers from Sydney to Faringdon, England, comprising Prussian Blue Plate II (3) tied by duplexes on 1860 (22 Dec) cover endorsed 'p Jedda', arrival datestamp on reverse (FE 18 61); and Dull Blue Plate I (3) tied by duplexes on 1861 (21 Dec) cover endorsed 'per Salsette', arrival datestamp on reverse (FE 19 62). Latter with recipient's endorsement on face, otherwise both fine and attractive (2 covers)

    6d used on covers to England, comprising 6d Greenish-grey tied by Sydney 'N.S.W.' in concentric ovals duplex on 1861 (22 Jun) envelope to Farringdon U.K. (AU 22 61 backstamp), fine; 6d Greenish-grey (straight edges two sides) similarly cancelled on 1860 (22 Oct) entire (peripheral faults) to Cullompton; and 6d Grey-brown tied by unclear ray type numeral on 1861 (17 May) cover (part back flap missing) from Woonoona to Southwell (3 covers)

    6d Fawn tied by Sydney 'N.S.W.' in concentric ovals duplex on 1860 (14 Mar) envelope to Wellington, New Zealand, with Nelson and arrival (MR 24 60) datestamps. Two stains on face and portion of flap missing

    6d Violet on covers to England, comprising 1861 (20 Jun) envelope (missing flap) from Singleton to Kingsbridge; 1861 (21 Oct) cover from Wollongong to Southwell; and 1862 (22 Jan) cover from Sydney (cancelled '2' Rideout duplex) to Kidderminster. Small cover faults but generally fine (3 covers)

    6d Violet tied by Sydney 'N.S.W.' in concentric ovals duplex on 1861 (22 Jul) entire to Manila, endorsed 'Northam' and with handstruck '1' (reales) inwards charge marking. Manila arrival d.s. (25 SET 1861) on reverse. Superb condition to a scarce destination, ex Trevor Davis
