    AUSTRALIAN COLONIES, NEW SOUTH WALES, INCOMING MAIL

    Lot 350
    Estimate: $1,000 Realised Price : $800

    1885 inwards cover franked with GB 1881 1d lilac tied by 'A26' obliterator with 'GIBRALTAR/B/DE29/85" addressed to 'Harry Wales/Australia, 'Diamond with line through and endorsed at left 'St Vincent's Hospital/Sydney', charged for postage, due to being under-franked for mail to Australia, then recognised as concessionary mail. The manuscript '10cts' and 'T' handstamp deleted, the latter by worn 'A26' postmark, reverse with datestamps of Port Said & Suez (12.1.86) and Sydney 16.2.86, few minor blemishes, though a rare example of inwards concessionary rate to a serviceman and a most unusual origin. Late use of GB used abroad, Gibraltar discontinuing this just two days later. Ex Osborn

    1900 (Aug) Thailand 4 atts postal card used Bangkok to Cooma NSW with Singapore and Sydney transit cds. A few blemishes but an unusual origin/destination

    1902 (10 Mar) ½d QV GB postal card uprated with 2 x QV ½d pairs, pair ½d KEVII, 1d lilac QV and KEVII 1d red used at British Post Office Salonica and registered to NSW where redirected upon arrival. Toned but an unusual and colourful origin/destination item

    1902 (1 Apr?) ppc from Greece franked 10 lepta adhesive and addressed to Parramatta, struck with the bold 'T1D' and 1d postage due affixed. Redirected twice bearing Lismore, Ballina and South Woodburn cds. A few blemishes but an unusual taxed origin/destination item

    1902 (Apr) Greece 5 lepta (uprated 3 x 1 lepta) and 10 lepta postal cards to the same addressee in Parramatta and both redirected to Ballina upon arrival (2) Unusual origin/ destination

     

    Lot 355
    Estimate: $100 Realised Price : $115

    1905 ppc (native crafts) to Parramatta franked Fiji KEVII 1d cancelled on arrival with Sydney cds and additionally with double oval 'SHIP LETTER/1D/LATE FEE' and 1d postage due (uncancelled) affixed. A few tone spots but a scarce late fee marking. Unusual

     

    Lot 356
    Estimate: $100 Realised Price : $75

    1910 (24 Oct) ppc (natives in boats at Matupi) franked 10pfg adhesive and tied by Rabaul cds, addressed to Sydney. Early incoming mail from this origin
