Lot 1143		Estimate: $75 1850 (20 Jul) and 1851 (28 May) covers to Raymond Terrace and West Maitland respectively and each bearing the 'CROWN/PAID' dated handstamps of Sydney GPO (PHNSW Type P5) used when mail was paid for in cash rather than stamps and each with manuscript '2'(d) pre-paid. Each with a few faults though these markings only recorded in 1850-51 (2)
Lot 1144		Estimate: $1,000 Realised Price : $950 1850 (14 Aug) entire Newtown to Melbourne franked 2d Sydney View Plate II showing full framelines at both left and right. The rear with very rare framed 'NEWTOWN' sub-office marking and Sydney GPO ds. Redirected to Balranald and manuscript '2'(d) applied and two strikes of the Maidens Punt ds and poor Balranald ds on reverse. Manuscript 'Missent to Balranald' on face at right and apparently returned to Melbourne where re-posted and struck with the framed 'PAID AT MELBOURNE' marking and sent to Wolloomooloo where further redirected to Newtown and manuscript 'to pay 2(d)' applied. The letter from Charles Windeyer (1780-1855) to his son concerns a job offer superintending a sheep & cattle farm in the Northern district. Soiled and a few tears though an extraordinary multi-redirected entire
Lot 1145		Estimate: $100 Realised Price : $75 1850 (10 Sep) OHMS part outer Tamworth to Sydney franked 2d Sydney View, margins close to large with full framelines at base clearly cancelled and tied numeral '71' (Tamworth). Few small blemishes
Lot 1146		Estimate: $350 Realised Price : $400 1850 (18 Nov) entire Carrington to Sydney franked 2d Sydney View, margins small to touching and roughly separated. Cancelled numeral '54' of Carrington (not tied) and Carrington ds on face and Sydney arrival ds on reverse. A few stains and peripheral faults though rated RRR with the Carrington Post Office closing on 31.12.1851 and only one other example recorded on cover. Contents written by Rev Dr John Dunmore Lang, Presbyterian Church Leader and Member of the Legislative Council
Lot 1147		Estimate: $750 Realised Price : $575 1851 (22 May) mourning cover (rear flap damaged) Parramatta to Raymond Terrace via Sydney and with datestamps of all three on rear. Apparently posted wholly unpaid and struck with the bold '4'(d) in black as a double deficiency charge to the recipient. This marking only used at Parramatta and very rare with perhaps two examples extant
Lot 1148		Estimate: $200 1851 (9 Aug) outer Bathurst to Sydney bearing 2d Ultramarine Sydney View Plate V with four large even margins. A few small peripheral faults. L. Miro (Paris) guarantee handstamp below the stamp. Cat from £160 x 2
Lot 1149		Estimate: $150 Realised Price : $115 1852 (14 Jun) outer Sydney to England carried on the 'Maitland' and franked 3d Sydney View (creased with full margins on two sides) tied by Sydney barred oval. Rated '8'd inwards ship letter charge with London and St Austel cds on rear. Very clean
Lot 1150		Estimate: $175 Realised Price : $135 1852 (21 Jun) entire Sydney to London 'per San Francisco' franked 3d Sydney View (affected by faint horizontal file fold) margins large to slightly cut into and rated '8'd inwards ship letter due. Contents from Levick & Pier which note a bill of exchange for £477/14/1d for sale of fruit and wine from Cape Town carried on the 'Cremona'. Few minor blemishes
Lot 1151		Estimate: $350 Realised Price : $270 1852 (13 Aug) entire 'per Chusan' to England franked 3d Sydney View (four margins) and 2d Laureate (variable margins) both affected by horizontal file fold and cancelled with BN. Rated '1/4'd as a double inwards ship letter. Bathurst, Sydney, London and Gosport cds on rear. Letter (typed transcript included) refers to the gold rush in both NSW and Victoria including "I am glad you got the gold all right I sent home" "....regular miners get at the Gold Fields £3 per week". He also refers to his dissatisfaction at the Gold Commissioners investigation into the writer being robbed of gold by bushrangers. Central vertical file fold and left half soiled, however an uncommon country ship letter
Lot 1152		Estimate: $200 Realised Price : $150 1852 (10 Aug) entire carried on the 'Roman Emperor' to Edinburgh franked 2 x 2d and 1d Laureates all with variable margins and indistinctly cancelled with BN 26 although not tied. Armidale, Sydney, London and Edinburgh datestamps on rear and rated '8'd inwards ship letter charge. Contents concern the writers livestock and mentions "Gold is bedevilling us all. 20/- a week....is the wage of the country". Clean and fine
Lot 1153		Estimate: $120 Realised Price : $95 1853 (16 Dec) large-part entire to Scotland bearing 3 x 2d Laureate (variable margins) cancelled with three strikes of numeral '48' (not tied) and bearing cds for Tarcutta, Gundagai, Sydney, London and Perth arrival. Overpaid 1d for the 5d country ship letter rate and rated '8(d)' inwards ship letter rate on arrival. The contents written by John Burns to his brother, notes "The young women in this country all ride like Tartars and many can handle a stock-whip like a stock-keeper."
Lot 1154		Estimate: $200 1854 (11 Sep) cover to Scotland sent by the 'Madras' franked with tied pair 2d (four margins - close to large) and 1d (two margins) Laureates all cancelled BN 48. Rated '1/-' inwards packet ship letter rate and the rear with Tarcutta, Gundagai, Sydney, London, Edinburgh and Ayr cds. Few minor stains though still an attractive country ship letter
Lot 1155		Estimate: $900 Realised Price : $675 1854 (14 July) cover Sydney to London franked pair 1/- and 6d Diadem, margins large to touching and all cancelled and tied by Sydney obliterators. Sydney despatch cds on rear and London arrival cds on front. Scarce double packet + double 3d ship letter rate
Lot 1156		Estimate: $350 1854 (30 Oct) outer with rear town oval datestamp illegible via Sydney to England franked vertical pair 3d and 8d Laureates, margins full to cut-into and cancelled with indistinct numerals and not tied. Handstamp '5'd accountancy marking and manuscript '6'd GB registration fee to be collected. Franking representing the 6d registration fee, 6d ship letter rate and recently obsolete 2d inland rate. London and Wakefield cds on rear and redirected within Sussex upon arrival with Uckfield cds on rear. Somewhat soiled but a unusual franking and rare example of early registered mail
Lot 1157		Estimate: $2,000 Realised Price : $1,500 1854 (20 Nov) cover Sydney to London 'via Marseilles' franked 1/- Diadem slightly overlapped by a pair 2d Laureates, apparently all four margined examples and cancelled Sydney dumb obliterator. Sydney departure cds on rear and London arrival cds on front. File fold, rear flap missing and slightly soiled however a rare example of an early routing via Marseilles
Lot 1158		Estimate: $120 Realised Price : $90 1854 (20 Nov) apparently prepaid entire Sydney to England 'pr Norna via Marseilles' with London and Manchester cds on rear. Rated '2'd for a double share of the credit to NSW and '2/3'd due on arrival for a ½-¾oz. letter. Contents concern the sales of bales of blankets and refer to those damaged on the 'Countess of Elgin' and 'Sumatra' en route to the Colony. Minor discolouration though a scarce early routing via Marseilles
Lot 1159		Estimate: $300 Realised Price : $230 1854 (30 Dec) entire 'p Argo' Sydney to Scotland franked 3d Laureate margins in places and tied by Sydney barred oval. The rear with transit cds and the front with framed arrival marking and rare bold '1D' handstamp (White type X16). The letter underpaid by 3d and charged '6'd as wholly unpaid. The contents written by Andrew Bogle Paterson, the father of Australian poet and ballad writer 'Banjo' Paterson (1864-1941) concerning him drawing £900 and £800 each from his father’s and uncle’s estates. File crease however an unusual ship letter with an Australian social connection

The majority franked 6d Diadem - margins cut-to-shape to full and condition poor to fine and carried by a variety of ships including the 'Argo', 'Omar Pasha' 'Star of Peace' 'European' and 'Malta' (5)
Lot 1161		Estimate: $80 Realised Price : $135 1855 (23 Mar) entire 'pr Steamer' Newcastle to Melbourne via Sydney bearing 1d (cut into at left) and 2d (four margins) Laureates. Faint stain and faint central fold nevertheless an attractive cover
