    Lot 359
    Estimate: $300 Realised Price : $440

    1845 (3 Jan) entire Adelaide to London carried by the 'Prince Albert' and rated '6'(d) ship letter rate and '8'(d) inwards private ship letter rate. The rear with large Adelaide crowned Oval datestamp and London arrival cds. Written by Thomas Quinton Stow (1801-62) Congregationalist Minister who arrived in Adelaide in October 1837 and was involved in building its first church. Contents concern details of Bills he has drawn on the society, stating church membership is at 160 and that he has opened a new school room. Very fine and of significant social connection with Adelaide

    Estimate: $150

    1849 (27 Oct) outer Adelaide to England endorsed 'pr Overland Mail' and rated '9'(d) pre-paid 1 oz. ship letter rate and a total of '2/8'(d) on arrival. Carried by the 'Macedon' to Calcutta, 'Haddington' to Suez and 'Indus' from Alexandria to Southampton. London and Portsmouth cds on rear. Few small tears at rear and minor creases though the wax seals. Letter removed though endorsed to indicate it was written by J.M. Skipper

    Estimate: $15,000

    1855 (13 Jul) large part outer 'by the Marco Polo' Adelaide to Neustadt, Hanover franked strip of three 2d Perkins Bacon (SG 2) margins close to large and tied by rhomboid roller cancel. The face with Adelaide Paid cds and Liverpool and London transit cds and the rear with Aachen transit and framed Neustadt (in green) arrival markings. Rare use of first issues on foreign mail and a very scarce destination. Fine and attractive. Ex Risvold, RPSL Certificate (2010)

    1902 (25 Sep) registered cover to Ohio with long type thin 'POSTAGE' 3d Olive (2) tied by squared-circle 'REGISTERED/ADELAIDE' datestamps, San Francisco & Cleveland backstamps, minor blemishes

    Private Perfin: 1912 (28 Jun) cover to New York franked QV 1d red strip of three with perfin 'OK’ tied by Adelaide machine cancel. Scarce and fine

     

    Lot 364
    Estimate: $150 Realised Price : $675

    Northern Territory: 1893 (24 Feb) cover Port Darwin to Bathurst NSW franked 2d DLR and tied by Port Darwin cds with additional strike alongside and part Sydney transit cds on rear plus 1910 (18 Jun) cover endorsed 'POST CARD' at top apparently without enclosure bearing 1d DLR and tied by Roper River cds with additional strike alongside and part Thursday Island (28.6.1910) cds on rear. Both covers toned and with defective or missing flaps, nevertheless uncommon and early examples (2)
