Struck with the 'CAN NOT BE/FOUND' handstamp and the 15 line 'NOT KNOWN' handstamp in red on reverse indicating different days of attempted delivery. Rare and fine

The addressee a Tattersalls alias and with torn remnant of a Tattersalls receipt at left. Few peripheral faults though a very unusual use

    1889-1911 mostly used selection on cover comprising; Attorney General (2), Chief Secretary (apparently in Gray and unrecorded thus), Corporation of Hobart, Corporation of Launceston, Council of Agriculture, Crown Solicitor, Dept of Public Works, Dept of Taxes, Dept of Govt Printer, Education Dept Electric Telegraph, Government Statistician (3), Governor of Tasmania (5, 3 to England one of which is redirected to Germany without additional charges), House of Assembly, HQ Defence Forces, International Exhibition (2), Minister of Lands, Office of Taxes (5), Secretary GPO (4, 1 registered), Surveyor General (3), Tasmanian Railways (2), Treasury (2) and OPSO Birth Registration covers (2, both without frank stamps) plus cut-outs for Hospital for the Insane New Norfolk, Secretary of Mines, Chief Inspector of Sheep and Postmaster Launceston. Some with defects though many fine (47)

    1824 (27 Oct) entire Hobart to Halifax, England carried on the 'Prince Regent' Initial rating overscored and subsequently rated '1/8'(d) due on arrival. Struck with a faint oval 'HOBART TOWN/V.D.L.' undated handstamp and the rear with a framed 'SHIP LETTER/ BRIGHTON' and faint cds on reverse. Contents written by Frederick Davies concerning debt recovery via Court from the Midwood estate. Discolouration and a few faint creases though a scarce example of the undated marking introduced perhaps just one month earlier

    1848 (27 Dec) Entire Hobart to London ‘p Calcutta' rated '4'(d) ship letter rate and '8'(d) inward ship charge on arrival with horizontal file fold and opening faults and arrival cds at rear. The contents written by Thomas Hewitt, Manager of the Derwent & Tamar Assurance Co with listings of ships, their contents and total risks underwritten. Typed transcript included

    Cancelled in Victoria: Selection of Chalons (17, imperf and perf) and Sidefaces (2) cancelled in Victoria, comprising BN 1 on 4d (4), '1' in thin bars on 1d, 3d, 4d (2), 6d (10, one in blue). Also 6d Chalon cancelled 'NSW' in concentric ovals. An attractive and unusual group (19)
