    Lot 202
    Estimate: $300T Realised Price : $320

    Selection of instructional markings, with 'INSUFFICIENTLY/STAMPED' on Sidefaces (30, with block of 4, strip of 3 and six pairs), on 2d (3) and 4d Pictorials, on part front with 1d and 2d Sidefaces, and tying 1d Sideface to G.B. ½d wrapper with 1881 1d, and with oval '1D/MORE TO PAY'; 'LATE LETTER' on Sidefaces (5), and tying 3d Sideface on defective front to London with 2d Sideface and 6d Chalon; boxed 'REFUSED' on 2d Sideface and 2d Pictorial strip of 3, and 1960 per favour strike; 'DETAINED FOR/FUMIGATION' on piece with 1d Pictorial pair; 'MISSENT-TO/HOBART TOWN' in black and red on Letter Bill pieces; plus a few other pieces. An interesting group (57 stamps + 6 covers/fronts)

    Instructional Types: Range including Loose Ship Letter, Late Letter, Insufficiently Paid, few TPOs, covers including 1899 to NZ with Unclaimed or Undeliverable, 1903 Late Fee mss, 1908 part cover with 22-box 'NOT KNOWN' handstamp (one of only two recorded), etc, mixed condition, fair/fine (120+ items)

     

    Lot 204
    Estimate: $200T

    Insufficiently Paid Mail: 1892 (11 Nov) 1d + 1d Scarlet embossed envelope with inspection cuts tied by Launceston duplexes (apparently an attempt to send the item at the 1d per 2oz packet rate), addressed to Hagley (NO 11 92 backstamp). The PO assessed the item was to go at the letter rate, and so was 8d underpaid. Struck with oval '(8)D/MORE TO PAY', and 2d Sideface and 6d Chalon affixed on arrival at Hagley and cancelled barred numeral '41'. Cover with some tone spots, but the earliest recorded date for the oval 'MORE TO PAY' marking

    Estimate: $100T

    Insufficiently Paid Mail: 1911 (24 Mar) cover to Boston, Massachusetts with 2d Pictorial tied by Zeehan cds, underpaid ½d for foreign letter rate and with 'T' in oval and '10/CTM/T' markings, and 'U.S. CHARGE 2 CENTS/TO COLLECT', U.S. 2c postage due affixed and tied by Boston oval obliterator. Very fine

    Insufficiently Paid Mail: 1900 (Feb) portion of large cover from Cape Colony to Tasmania with 2½d pair cancelled indistinct cds, on arrival the Hobart oval '(6/3)D/MORE TO PAY' was applied, with 1892-99 Tablet ½d pair and 1/- block of 6 and 1899 2d Pictorial affixed and cancelled Lymington North cds with 'CO' code (MR 12 00). Two vertical folds affecting one Cape stamp and two 1/- Tablets, otherwise fine and a remarkable use of postage stamps to indicate payment of postage due

    Too Late Mail: 1903 (27 Apr) 'Tatts' cover from Launceston to Hobart with 1d and 2d Pictorials, and with straight line 'LATE LETTER'. Fine apart from repaired spike hole, and very scarce

    Late Fee Mail: 1903 (29 Apr) 1d postcard cancelled Launceston cds addressed locally, with straight-line 'LATE LETTER' and oval '(1)D'/MORE TO PAY', with 1902 Blank Base 1d postage due (very fine) affixed and cancelled by pencil. Fine apart from a repaired spike hole

    Ship Mail: Collection of Loose Ship letter markings on adhesives, with boxed 'LOOSE/SHIP LETTER' (34 x 10mm) on Sideface 1d pair and 2d; boxed 'LOOSE SHIP LETTER' (60 x 6mm) on 1d, 2d (8), 4d, 9d Sidefaces, ½d, 6d, 10d (2), 1/- and 1½d on 5d Tablets, and ½d, 1d (7), 2d, 2½d, 3d (2), 4d, 5d (2), 6d (2) and 1d on 2d Pictorials, 'LOOSE SHIP LETTER' (52 x 10mm) on ½d (2) and 2d Pictorials, boxed 'LOOSE SHIP PACKET' on 1d Pictorial (3) on piece, double-lined boxed 'LOOSE LETTER' on 1d, 2d and 6d Pictorials, and double-lined boxed 'PACKET BOAT' on 1d (2) and 2d Pictorials. Includes some multiples and on piece, a fine accumulation (51)

    Ship Mail: 1890s front from Victoria addressed to Launceston, posted on board ship with 1886-96 2d Stamp Duty cancelled on arrival with barred 'LAUNCESTON' obliterator, and with double oval 'LOOSE SHIP LETTER/'2d'/TO PAY', 2d Sideface affixed and tied by Launceston cds (year illegible) to indicate payment of loose letter fee. Very scarce

    Ship Mail: 1907 (Nov) picture postcard to Scotland (readdressed) posted on board in transit to Melbourne, with ½d Tablet pair and 1d Pictorial cancelled boxed 'LOOSE SHIP LETTER' (Melbourne, 60 x 6mm), with Melbourne transit cds (13.11.07) and Edinburgh arrival ds (DE 14 07). Postcard with a few bends, otherwise fine

    Unclaimed Mail: 1899 (21 Dec) cover with G.B. 1887-92 2½d Jubilee tied by Long Sutton cds, addressed to Burnie and with 'handstruck 'ADVERTISED/BUT-UNCLAIMED' (a little smudged) (latest recorded date), with Launceston and Burnie (JA 25 00) backstamps. Back flap missing and with vertical fold, however a scarce instructional marking

    Unclaimed Mail: 1906 (7 Mar) cover with 1d and 2d Pictorials cancelled 'T M L RY - No. 3' cds, addressed to Hobart and with boxed 'UNCLAIMED' (39 x 9.5mm) reverse with boxed letter carrier route handstamp numbered 1 to 22 in violet (signed to indicate no knowledge of addressee), and with double oval 'DEAD LETTER OFFICE/TASMANIA' datestamp in magenta (11 APR 06). Very fine
