Entire with horizontal filing crease, otherwise very fine. The two line handstamp is the only recorded example, ex Malcolm Groom and John Bell

Presumed to have been struck during the period of use of this number at Hobart, although use at one of the other three offices which used this number (Ouse, Cascades, Impression Bay) cannot be ruled out. Rated RRRR, and the only example recorded in this colour

Horizontal filing crease and a few minor stains. Ex Ross Jones, and believed to be the only example of the '59' numeral not used as a canceller

Lot 158		Estimate: $200T Realised Price : $180 Second Allocation Barred Numerals: 1861 (6 Mar) printed notice from Bank of Australasia locally used within Hobart, franked 1857-59 1d Pale Red-brown Imperf tied by very fine '52' Numeral, paying the town letter rate, and with 'PRE-PAID/1-O-CLOCK cds in red. Mild horizontal filing crease, otherwise superb, and believed to be the earliest recorded date of use for any Second Allocation Numeral

Lot 166		Estimate: $120T Realised Price : $90 Hobart: 1861 (23 Jan) cover to Sussex, England with 6d Grey cancelled Oval of Bars and additionally tied by red despatch cds, Uckfield arrival backstamp, MA 22 61. In January 1861 Hobart discontinued using the numeral obliterators and adopted the Oval of Bars instead. This cover is the earliest recorded use (one of two known). Both the adhesive and cover with considerable age-staining
