    Second state of dies: 3d Blue Retouched, SG 7a, Type [9] redrawn 'THREE' and shading above, Purves 'v', unused, full-margined, barely shaved at left. One of the more celebrated items amongst the retouches. Ex Harvey, Perry

    Third state of dies - 'White Veils': 3d Blue Retouched, SG 14c, Type [1] retouch affecting upper portion of left frame in pair [1-2], Purves ‘E’, unused, small surface-abrasion in [2], slight creasing and staining. Very few unused retouches recorded. Ex Hall, Perry

     

    Lot 26
    Estimate: $3,000

    Third state of dies - 'White Veils': 3d Greenish Blue Retouched, SG 14c, Type [1] retouch affecting lower left portion of left frame, unused from left margin of sheet, remarkably with large portion of [7] below which also shows retouched area (top left corner - Purves 'H'), thinned (mostly at base), slight crease. Scarce in this shade. Ex Harvey, Perry

    Fourth state of dies: 2d Lilac, SG 15a, unused pair, full-margined except where shaved at base, lovely pastel shade, two tiny pinholes in no way detracting. One of only two unused multiples of a fourth state 2d in private hands. Ex Forster, Perry. Illustrated Kellow page 44

    Fourth state of dies: 2d Grey, SG 15b, partial reconstruction of this very rare shade (missing [1,20,29]) from the intermediate stone, includes three pairs, variable condition (27). Cat £10125

    J.S. Campbell & Co.: 1d Orange-Red, SG 23, unused, large-margined from base with full sheet margin, creased, stains mostly on reverse, outstanding appearance

    Campbell & Fergusson: 1d Brick-Red, SG 26a, unused virtually full o.g. block of three, full-margined, a little creased. The record unused multiple from this Stone. Ex Perry

    Campbell & Fergusson: 1d Dull Rose-Red, Retouched [13], SG 27c, redrawn upper left frame for a distance of 8mm, unused, full-margined, small thin and crease. One of two unused Stone '3' retouches recorded. Ex Purves, Perry

    Campbell & Fergusson: 1d Orange-Brown, Retouched [21], SG 27c, redrawn lower left border for a distance of 7.5mm, unused, full-margined, almost imperceptible thin. The other of the two unused Stone '3' retouches recorded, and the pre-eminent item in the retouches. Ex Ferrary, Yardley, Purves, Perry

    Campbell & Fergusson: Stones '4/5' 1d Pink/Rose shades, SG 28/b group, complete reconstruction of an Intermediate transfer group of 24 units UNUSED, including pair [24/6] duplicating position [24], mostly four-margined, odd small thin or crease, generally accepted to be the finest of perhaps only two/three unused reconstructions ever assembled. Ex Perry

    Campbell & Fergusson: 1d Rose (deep shade), SG 28a, unused part o.g. pair with large margins, faint thinning, minute pinhole in second unit. Ex Pack, Perry

    Campbell & Fergusson: 1d Lilac-Rose, SG 28b, unused part o.g. pair with large margins except where touched at left, small thin in first unit. Ex Perry

     

    Lot 40
    Estimate: $10,000 Realised Price : $10,500

    Campbell & Fergusson: 1d Retouched [6], SG 28d, affecting whole length of left border, unused, large-margined, portion of adjoining unit at top, negligible thin. The most celebrated retouch of Victoria, and one of the great lithographic retouches of the British Empire. No other unused example recorded. Ex Pack, Dale-Lichtenstein

     

    Lot 41
    Estimate: $7,500 Realised Price : $5,750

    Campbell & Fergusson printings - Perforated: 1d Lilac-Rose Stones '4/5' printing, as SG 28b for imperforate, unused, tiny thin, the perforations so misplaced as to suggest this may have been an experimental trial of the perforating machine. The only unused example recorded. Illustrated Kellow Colour Plate 4. Ex Castle, Harvey, Perry
