    Lot 143
    Estimate: $5,000

Third state of dies - 'White Veils': 1d Reddish Brown, SG 12, large-margined pair, portions of three adjoining units, tied by Barred Oval '1' to 1854 (31 Aug) Official locally addressed Melbourne Town letter (creases clear of adhesives) at increased 2d rate (from 1 May 1854), undeliverable and with handstruck 'ADVERTISED/AND/ UNCLAIMED' and Butterfly '14' in red associated with Dead letter Office, endorsed on reverse by each Melbourne letter carrier. Ex Pack, Forster, Perry

Fourth state of dies: 2d Grey, SG 15b, partial reconstruction of this very rare shade (missing [1,20,29]) from the intermediate stone, includes three pairs, variable condition (27). Cat £10125

    Lot 146
    Estimate: $7,500

Fourth state of dies - 'Vertical drapes': Eighth printing 2d in distinctive Pastel Grey shade, unused, full-margined. This shade not known used suggesting it may be of proof status. Cat £2500 minimum unused. Unique. Ex Harvey, Perry. 2006 Perry Certificate

    Lot 147
    Estimate: $3,000

Lithographed by J.S. Campbell & Co: 1d Rose, SG 23a, typical dull shade, full-margined pair cancelled Barred Oval '1' (Melbourne), slight crease in second unit, small separation in vertical gutter between. Kellow states 'some two dozen used examples have been identified, of which pairs are the only multiples'. 2006 Perry Certificate

    Lot 148
    Estimate: $2,000

Lithographed by J.S. Campbell & Co: 3d Blue, SG 24, full-margined pair, cancelled by Barred Oval '64' on 1854 (22 Nov) Official cover Heathcote to Melbourne, paying 6d Inland letter rate, backstamped Heathcote. Rare proving cover for this obliterator. Ex Perry. 2006 Perry Certificate

    Lot 149
    Estimate: $1,000

Lithographed by J.S. Campbell & Co: 3d Blue Retouched [17] in vertical pair with [23], SG 24a, cancelled very rare Butterfly '35' (Harrow), late use. Superb. Ex Perry. 2006 Perry Certificate. An item for the connoisseur

    Lot 150
    Estimate: $1,750

Lithographed by Campbell & Fergusson: 1d Orange-Brown Retouched [1], SG 27c, redrawn lower left border, margins except where barely touched right top, portion of adjoining unit at left, faint thin. Perhaps the finest of the few recorded. Ex Pack, Wawn, Purves, Perry. 2006 Perry Certificate

    Lot 151
    Estimate: $4,500

Lithographed by Campbell & Fergusson: 1d Retouched [4], SG 28d, retouch to upper right corner, unused, full-margined, faint trace of thin. The catalogue value of £2000, half the value of a normal stamp, is highly misleading. Probably less than six unused Stones '4/5' retouches exist. Ex Harvey, Perry. 2006 Perry Certificate

    Lot 152
    Estimate: $1,250

Lithographed by Campbell & Fergusson: 3d Bright Blue, SG 29, lightly cancelled strip of four, margins except where close at top, small scissor-cut in margin between first and second units. Ex Pack, Forster, Perry. 2006 Perry Certificate

    Lot 153
    Estimate: $600

Lithographed by Campbell & Fergusson: 3d Greenish Blue shades, SG 29a, selection of constant secondary varieties on 'Barelli' original exhibition leaf, generally fine/very fine (8)

    Lot 154
    Estimate: $2,500

Perforated 12 by Robinson: 3d Blue, SG 78, tied by Melbourne 'killer' to 1859 (17 Sep) entire letter to U.K., intended for the Marseilles route but another adhesive has dislodged after cancellation was applied (presumably a 6d to complete the 9d via Marseilles rate) and the article has been sent via Southampton, the 3d deficiency for that route being indicated by U.K. 'MORE/TO/PAY' and 'Deficient Postage 3d/Fine 9d' markings. Ex Perry. 2006 Perry Certificate
