    Third state of dies: 1d Dull Rose triangular void at lower left for 15mm from base, resulting in the absence of 'E' in lower left corner square and portion of left frame above, SG 9b. This is the only recorded example, and is not dissimilar to the more well known 'Void corner' in the fifth printing 2d (SG 13d), of which four are recorded, one realising AU$57500 in our March 2006 sale. Campbell & Co: 3d Blue (shades), SG 24, complete reconstruction of an intermediate transfer group of 24 in matching pairs, [17] the primary retouch, [15-16] a rare 'abnormal' pair from base margin of a sheet, generally very fine to superb. Virtually impossible to duplicate in this quality. Ex Perry

    Lithographed by Campbell & Fergusson: 3d Greenish Blue, SG 29a, full-margined vertical pair tied by BN '1' to 1858 (16 Oct) cover Melbourne to U.K. per 'Victoria', paying 6d Ship letter rate. This cover was involved in a Maritime dual interrupted-mail incident. 2006 Perry Certificate

     

    Lot 470
    Estimate: $6,000 Realised Price : $4,800

    Experimental roulettes: 3d Blue pair, SG 48, creased at top, tied by Barred Oval '1' to 1854 (3 Aug) cover Melbourne to Geelong, paying 6d Inland letter rate. Once thought to be a private roulette, Kellow states 'It is now considered distinctly possible that some official experimentation with a rouletting machine took place in Melbourne in the latter part of 1854, and that small quantities of a number of different stamps were treated.' Other denominations known to have been so treated are the 1/- Octagonal and 2/- Woodblock. Unique on cover. 2006 Perry Certificate. Ex Pack, Wawn, Perry. Illustrated in Kellow, page 62

    Perforated 12 by Robinson: 3d Blue, SG 78, singles (2) irregularly scissor-separated, tied by Melbourne '1' to 1859 (18 Oct) cover to U.K., intended for the Marseilles route but paid at 6d only for Southampton route, double-oval 'INSUFFICIENTLY PAID/VIA MARSEILLES' indicating the destined route. 2006 Perry Certificate. Ex Perry
