    AUSTRALIAN COMMONWEALTH, POSTAGE DUE COVERS

    Lot 116
    Estimate: $800 Realised Price : $650

    1904 (17th Oct) spiked cover Buninyong to Hobart bearing Vic 2d violet. "T (4d) in oval " struck in black, with single and pair 1902 6d (BW D13) affixed, paying deficient postage for multiple covers, tied by Hobart cds 20th Oct. Slight cover faults, though still attractive and a remarkable franking of the 6d value which is unpriced on cover

     

    Lot 117
    Estimate: $750 Realised Price : $650

    1905 (13th Feb) spiked cover Victoria to Hobart, bearing Vic 1d red perf 11 pair. 'T4d in oval' struck in black, 1902 4d (BW D11) and 1902-04 1/- (BW D42) affixed, paying deficient postage for four similar covers, tied by Hobart cds (postage dues on covers from this period are usually found with manuscript cancels). The 1/- value is unpriced on cover, with few examples known

     

    Lot 118
    Estimate: $1,000 Realised Price : $900

    1905 (30th May) spiked cover Zeehan to Hobart bearing Tas 2d violet. 'T in oval (4d)' struck in black, with 1902 4d & 6d (BW D11 & 13) and 1902-04 1/- (BW D42) affixed, paying deficient postage for five covers, tied by Hobart cds. Missing small part of flap and repaired tear, however very few covers exist bearing either the 6d or 1/- dues, this being the only example we have seen bearing both values

    Estimate: $750 Realised Price : $750

    1905 (28th Jul) spiked cover Hopetoun to Hobart bearing Vic 1d red pair. "T 4d in oval" struck in black, with vertical pair of 1902 6d BW D13 postage dues affixed, paying deficient postage for three similar covers, tied by Hobart cds 1st Aug. Cover fold (not affecting adhesives) and repaired tear, however the 6d is unpriced on cover and few examples are known

     

    Lot 120
    Estimate: $2,000 Realised Price : $2,700

    1936 (3rd Aug) cover Glenelg to Adelaide, bearing 2d S.A. Centenary (FDI). Endorsed "Officially Registered/Supposed Contain/Valuable Coin" in red, superb large "T" in oval (6d) struck in black and paid by marginal 1931-37 C of A Wmk 6d (BW D120, SG D110), pencil cancelled. A rare example of this key postage due on cover, with perhaps three or four examples known
