    AUSTRALIAN COMMONWEALTH, POSTAL HISTORY, MILITARY POSTAL HISTORY

    Lot 490
    Estimate: $100 Realised Price : $140

    1918 (3 Aug) cover with contents endorsed 'on active service' and addressed to Sydney, with 'A I FORCES POSTAGE FREE/VIC' cds, and with triple circle 'PASSED SHIPS CENSOR/H.M.A.S. YARRA' in black, the latter not recorded in Emery's handbook. Some soiling and with damage to back flap, however very scarce

     

    Lot 491
    Estimate: $200 Realised Price : $180

    World War II study of the various forms of lettersheets and air letter forms developed for the use of servicemen, including unused examples of the 'NVLope' including advertising booklet and leaflet. Red Cross, NAAFI and ACF lettersheet forms unused and used, multicoloured 'Cubby House Mail' lettersheets unused (3), various air mail lettercard types unused (2) and used (6). Some small stains on some from previous mounting, but generally fine and an interesting lot (27 items)

    World War II Air Mail Letter Cards, range of various types used with 9d Platypus, 1d QE (15), 3d KGVI (22), circular 'POSTAGE/1d/PAID frank in red (3, two fronts only) or stampless (2), wide range of Field PO datestamps and other markings, and various censor markings of Army, Navy and RAAF, Few faults, and a small number are fronts only, but a useful group (43)

    Estimate: $50 Realised Price : $160

    1944 (1 Aug) POW lettersheet addressed to No. 3 Camp (NT), with 'APPROVED FOR TRANSMISSION, SUBJECT/TO CENSORSHIP BY DISTRICT CENSOR/TATURA./CAMP COMMANDANT/NO. 1 INTERNMENT CAMP.', boxed 'SERVICE OF/PRISONERS/OF WAR', and diamond '3/PASSED/BY/CENSOR/143', all in violet, and sealed by '3 Opened by Censor' tape. Stained by sellotape repair on reverse, otherwise fine and an unusual POW usage within Australia
