    1852 Recess Printed by Thomas Ham: 2d Chestnut [10], SG 18a, full-margined, lightly cancelled by rare Barred Oval '12' Maiden's Punt, tiny thin at left mostly in margin. This shade is rare (Kellow records only 15 examples), suggesting that it may be of colour trial status - known examples range from pale to deep chestnut. The catalogue value of £120 misleads as to its rarity

    1854 Lithographed by J.S. Campbell & Co. Stone 1: Used strip of four (the second largest recorded multiple), two pairs and nineteen singles (all plated), variable margins but mainly fine. The scarcest of the lithographed printings (Kellow at p73 states 'Only about 160 copies of this stamp have so far been found'). Rare selection (27)

    1854 Lithographed by J.S. Campbell & Co. Stone 2: Brownish Purple shade [49], SG 19, large margined single tied to 1853 (24 Dec) cover-front Melbourne to Bendigo from the Dyason correspondence. The earliest usage of a Campbell printing believed to exist and pre-dating the SG issue date. A new discovery

    1854 Lithographed by J.S. Campbell & Co. Stone 5: 'Substituted transfer' horizontal pair [32-43], SG 20ca, [32] substituted for [42], large-margined except where barely touched at lower right. Kellow records only seven substitutions in multiples (also a single), two in The Royal Collection. This is the premier item in the substitutions in private hands.     The remarkable Contract dated 18 May 1854 for 'Printing & gumming postage stamps', with signatures of James Campbell, James Fergusson and various parties representing the Colony of Victoria, together with a 'Specimen of gumming' being a glued sample (110 x 240mm approx) of the distinctive paper utilised by the Contractors and duly signed by the respective parties. A unique item of exceptional philatelic and historic significance
