    Yellow-green block of four pos. [24-25/34-35] clear to small margins all round except just touched at upper right, lightly cancelled with indistinct numeral. Two tiny corner creases of no significance considering the rarity of this multiple, as no other used block of this stamp can be traced. Ex ‘Espana’ and ‘Manwood’. SG 88, Cat. £152+

    Yellow-green horizontal strip of 6 pos. [42-47] small to good margins all round cancelled with ‘30’ of Camden. Remarkably fine and fresh and the largest recorded used multiple of this stamp, with 1982 BPA Certificate. Ex Steinway and ‘Manwood’. SG 88, Cat. £228+

    Yellow-green clear to small margins all round tied by Sydney obliterator on 1855 (27 Jan) outer to Melbourne, Sydney despatch and ‘SHIP LETTER/FREE/G.P.O. VICTORIA’ ds in red (JA 30 1855) on reverse. A scarce stamp in this condition on cover

    3d Laureate reconstruction of the engraved plate of 50 in Yellow-green shades including three pairs. The condition is much better than that usually seen with the large majority of stamps fine four-margin examples. SG Cat. approx. £1900 (50)

    3d Laureate - the remainder of the 3d Watermark Double-lined ‘3’ comprising 15 singles (one pos. [37] variety ‘WACES) and a pair, all selected four-margin examples (17). SG 88, Cat. £646

    Error of Watermark Double-lined ‘2’ clear top and right, just into at base and touched at places on left, cancelled Sydney obliterator. A presentable example of this rarity. SG 87b, Cat. £1600

    Error of Watermark Double-lined ‘2’ small margins three sides and just clear at base, cancelled indistinct numeral. The watermark is centred very much to the lower right. One of the finest available examples of this error. Ex Schofield and ‘Hamilton’, with 1964 RPSL Certificate

     

    Lot 454
    Estimate: $5,000

    Error of Watermark Double-lined ‘2’ horizontal pair pos. [42-43] small margins two sides and clear or just touching at left and bottom, cancelled legible ‘6’ of St. Mary’s (rated RRR). A major New South Wales rarity in very fine condition. Two pairs are recorded of this error, of which this is by far the finer. It is probable that the pair offered here is the one first recorded as being shown at a meeting of The Philatelic Society of Australia in 1888, and was later in the C.L. Pack collection. SG 87b, Cat. £3200+
