    LAUREATES, TWO PENCE PLATE III

    Lot 380
    Estimate: $5,000 Realised Price : $5,000

    Prussian Blue block of four pos. [37-38/47-48] lovely colour with virtually full original gum showing some toning, a few small spots showing through to face. Margins all round with full bottom selvedge, ragged at right but clear of design. A major rarity of the Laureate series. This is the only recorded mint block of the 2d Plate III, from the Ferrary, C.L. Pack and Dale-Lichtenstein collections. The only other unused multiples which can be traced are a strip of three in the London Public Record Office and a pair in the Tapling Collection in the British Library. SG 63, Cat. £2800+

    Prussian Blue pos. [3 variety ‘WALES partly covered with wavy lines’] clear to large margins showing complete frameline at right, two small tone spots at base. SG 63a, Cat. £250

    Prussian Blue horizontal strip of three pos. [41-43] large margins all round showing complete framelines at left and right, dark spot on [42] nevertheless very attractive and cancelled neat ‘66’ numerals of Singleton. SG 63, Cat. £210+

    Prussian blue block of four pos. [25-26/35-36] close to large margins all round, small corner crease at top right. A fine and rare used block, ex ‘Manwood’. SG 63, Cat. £280+

    Prussian Blue pos. [3 variety ‘WALES partly covered with wavy lines’] margins close to touching on three sides, good at right showing complete frameline, cancelled indistinct numeral. SG 64a, Cat. £250

    2d Plate III - the remainder of Plate III on both bluish and white wove papers, all hand-picked examples with full margins and a very fine group, incl examples cancelled ‘87’ (Ipswich) and 95 (Brisbane). SG 63/64 Cat £1470 (21)
