    Lot 1003
    Estimate: $200

    1855-57 Wmk Large Garter 4d Rose-carmine (2) on 1859 (12 Aug) cover to Zara, Austria. Both stamps tied by London NW duplexes and the face with 'P(aid)' in oval, '3d' accountancy marking and Aachen transit marking. The rear with arrival marking and undated Seymour St/Euston Sq circular handstamp. Few ironed out folds at periphery though still attractive. SG Cat £420

    1855-57 Wmk Emblems 6d Pale Lilac (small fault), with 2d Blue Plate 5 Perf 14 and 1d Orange-brown on 1857 (9 Jun) small cover Manchester to Ferraro, Italy each tied by Manchester '74' duplex and the face with 'PD' in circle and Calais transit cds. The rear with Paris transit and Ferraro arrival markings. Ironed out crease and wax seal on rear removed though an attractive three-colour franking. SG Cat £465

    1867-83 Wmk Anchor White paper £5 Orange, SG 137, neat central Wigan datestamp and small part corner cds, tiny corner perf tone mentioned only for accuracy. Exceptional centring and a premium stamp

    1873-80 Wmk Large Garter 8d Orange (wing margin at left) on 1876 (27 Oct) entire London to Calcutta, India additionally franked 1d Plate 158 representing a late fee and both stamps tied by London 'L1' octagonal ds. Few minor blemishes though early and attractive use of this stamp. SG Cat £600

    1883-84 White paper 2/6d Deep Lilac [KC], SG 179, a couple of characteristic gum skips do not detract from this fine and fresh unmounted example. Cat (for hinged) £825

    1887-92 Jubilee ½d Orange-vermilion on 1899 (25 Sep) postcard London to St Petersburg. The article taxed, returned to sender (London arrival 12.10.1899) and Russian official label pasted over at left. Peripheral faults though an uncommon example of a postal article refused on account of tax

    1887-92 Jubilee 4d Green and Deep Brown tied by two strikes of the Clapham SE (London) cds on 1890 (12 Jun) cover to Toowoomba, Queensland. Few opening faults and defective flap however a scarce solo franking, representing the rarely used long sea route, to an uncommon destination
