    1874 (11 Mar) cover to Napier, endorsed 'Per Mongol' bearing 1d Sideface and 1d Red-Brown Chalon tied by 'C' duplexes of Christchurch, arrival backstamps, odd tone. Extremely rare, being one of two or three 'Sideface plus Chalon' combination covers known. Provenance: Ex Burrus

    1908 Picture postcard from USA to New Zealand showing very fine strike of 'DAMAGED IN WRECK/OF S.S. AEON' in red, stamp floated off. This item is one of only 14 survivors. [The "Aeon" struck a reef off Christmas Island in the Gilberts group on 18 July 1908]
