    SPECIMEN STAMPS OF THE AUSTRALIAN COLONIES, TASMANIA, PERKINS BACON ISSUES

    Lot 222
    Estimate: $10,000 Realised Price : $15,000

    1855 Wmk Large Star Imperforate, 4d Blue with portion of "Rowland Hill" ‘CANCELLED’. Margins all round. Cat £10000. Ex Earl, Latto and Jaffé

    Six examples were prepared at the request of Ormond Hill in 1861, and presented to colleagues, including his uncle, Rowland Hill. Four examples of the 4d have been recorded from the vertical block of six, of which this is No. 3; No. 2 is in the Royal Philatelic Collection

    Estimate: $200 Realised Price : $260

    1871 Reprints on Unwatermarked Paper, Perf 11½ 6d Red-Lilac and 1/- Vermilion, fine for these, and 1879 Reprints on Unwatermarked Paper, Perf 11½ 1d Brick-Red and 4d Blue, with defects. All large part o.g. and scarce (4)

    Both the 1871 and 1879 reprints were made for presentation and exchange purposes and only 480 of each were printed

    Estimate: $250 Realised Price : $190

    1886 Reprints of 1871 and 1879 on Unwatermarked Paper, Perf 11½ optd ‘REPRINT’ 1d Brick-Red (2), 2d Green (2, one opt inverted), 4d Blue, 6d Red-Lilac, 1/- Vermilion, some small defects and some with adhesions on reverse, still scarce and mostly part o.g. (7)

     

    Lot 225
    Estimate: $250 Realised Price : $440

    1889 Reprints on Thin Ungummed Card Imperforate 1d Red, 2d Yellow-Green, 6d Red-Lilac, 1/- Vermilion blocks of 4, and 4d Blue block of 9, plus 1d, 2d, 4d, 6d and 1/- singles, all fine (31)

    This set of reprints were used for a distribution to U.P.U. members in December 1889

    Estimate: $250 Realised Price : $300

    1901 Reprints on Thin Gummed Card Perf 11½ 1d Red, 2d Yellow-Green, 4d Blue, 6d Red-Lilac, 1/- Vermilion set in blocks of 4 optd ‘REPRINT’ (17 x 2mm), fine (1/- with straight edge at base) and large part o.g. (20)

    In 1901 remainders of the 1889 reprints were gummed, perforated and overprinted ‘REPRINT’ for inclusion in the presentation sets for Federal Parliamentarians
