    SPECIMEN STAMPS OF THE AUSTRALIAN COLONIES, VICTORIA, 1856-58 PERKINS BACON QUEEN-ON-THRONE ISSUES

    1858 Wmk Large Star Imperforate 6d Bright Blue with two portions of "Rowland Hill" ‘CANCELLED’. Good margins all round, with thin at top right corner. Ex Perry, Latto and Jaffé. Cat £10000

    Six examples were prepared at the request of Ormond Hill in 1861, and presented to colleagues, including his uncle, Rowland Hill. The obliteration was applied to imperforate remainders held in London, the printed supply sent to Victoria being rouletted prior to issue. Three examples have been recorded from the horizontal block of six, of which this is No. 5; No. 6 is in the Royal Philatelic Collection
