Lot 96
| | Estimate: $12,500 | Realised Price : $18,000 |
Greyish-blue pos. [3] small margins left and bottom and wider margins top and right. Wonderful impression and colour from a very early state of the plate. Tiny cut at lower left just touching frame, otherwise superb. The 2d Plate I is the most beautiful printing of all the Sydney Views, and this stamp is probably the finest unused example from the very small number which survive. No other unused examples have been located showing an impression as early as this one, and virtually all other examples have small faults. A very important stamp, ex Ferrary and ‘Hamilton’. SG 15, Cat. £8500 |
