    Yellow-green small to large margins, tied by Sydney obliterator to 1851 (25 Sep) envelope to London endorsed ‘per May Queen’, with ‘PAID SHIP LETTER/SYDNEY ds in red on face, London arrival ds (7 FE 7 1852) on reverse, and manuscript ‘8’(d) as an incoming ship letter. A fine and clean cover, ex Shepherd

    Bright Green (pos. 21) large margins all round used with 2d Laureate Plate I (also full margins tied by ‘57’ numeral to 1852 (21 Feb) outer from Raymond Terrace to London. With ‘PAID SHIP LETTER/SYDNEY’ ds in red on face, London arrival ds (10 JU 10 1852) on reverse, and manuscript ‘8’(d) as an incoming ship letter. Horizontal filing fold and ink notations on face typical of a Pack cover, otherwise a very fine mixed issue franking for the 5d (2d inland + 3d ship) rate. From the C.L. Pack and Dale-Lichtenstein collections, with 1990 RPSL Certificate

     

    Lot 317
    Estimate: $1,500 Realised Price : $1,600

    Bright Green, excellent colour and good margins all round, tied by Sydney obliterator on 1851 (14 Mar) outer to London. Endorsed ‘p St George’ with PAID SHIP LETTER/ SYDNEY’ despatch ds in red and boxed ‘QUEEN’S WHARF’ receiving office handstamp on face, and manuscript ‘8’(d) incoming ship letter charge. Reverse with London arrival ds (1851 18 JUL). Two vertical filing folds, and some extraneous red ink on face, otherwise a fine and scarce usage, ex Baetgen and Rivett-Carnac. Eleven Sydney View covers are recorded bearing the QUEEN’S WHARF’ marking applied to letters posted at shipside prior to delivery to the Sydney G.P.O.
