    Plate Proof horizontal pair in Red-brown on unwatermarked White Wove Paper, superb with large margins all round, scarce in multiples

    Plate Proof vertical pair in Blue on unwatermarked White Wove Paper, with good to large margins all round, few small tone spots

    Golden Yellow unused without gum, fine colour and good to large margins all round. Insignificant staining at upper left mentioned only for accuracy. One of the finest known examples of this very rare stamp. Ex Burrus, with 1964 BPA Certificate. SG 97, Cat. £12000

    Golden Yellow good margins three sides and very wide at base, cancelled indistinct numeral. An exceptional stamp, with 1961 RPSL Certificate. SG 97, Cat. £1400

     

    Lot 568
    Estimate: $1,200 Realised Price : $900

    Golden Yellow vertical pair with close margins top and bottom, wide at sides, cancelled ray type ‘88’ of Port Macquarie (rated RRR). Pinhole in upper unit and two in lower unit caused by points of obliterator piercing the paper, otherwise fine. This pair is in the rich golden yellow shade of the first printing of December 1855. Ex ‘Manwood’. SG 97, Cat. £2800+

    Golden Yellow (from the first printing) and 2d Laureate Wmk. ‘2’ (both large margins all round) cancelled ‘81’ on 1856 (17 May) registered outer from Warwick to Ipswich. Reverse with Warwick, Drayton and Ipswich arrival (MY 20 1856) ds. The adhesives pay the double inland rate (2 x 2d) plus the 6d registration fee. The (6d) registration stamp had been issued in January 1856, and the use of ordinary stamps to pay registration after that date is very unusual. Ex ‘Manwood’. Horizontal and vertical filing folds, otherwise extremely fine and one of the best 8d Diadem usages extant, as well being as one of the finest Moreton Bay District covers

     

    Lot 570
    Estimate: $900

    Lemon-yellow with wide to huge margins all round, cancelled blurred and indistinct numeral. This is by far the rarest of the 8d Diadem shades, being from the third printing (May 1858) of only 5,000 stamps. Probably the finest known example of this rarity

    Dull Yellow-orange with small even margins all round and Watermark Inverted and Reversed, very light ray type numeral cancellation. Ex C.L. Pack. SG 98, Cat. £1300

    Dull Yellow-orange good to large margins, with ‘NSW’ in concentric ovals cancellation, very fine

    Dull Yellow-orange large to very large margins, with ‘NSW’ in concentric ovals cancellation. Superb, with 1961 RPSL Certificate stating ‘genuine so far as one can say’

     

    Lot 574
    Estimate: $1,500 Realised Price : $1,150

    Dull Yellow-orange with very large margins all round, used with 6d Deep Slate Diadem (large margins three sides, close at right) on piece tied by ray type ‘87’ of Ipswich (Moreton Bay District), the 6d also tied by London AU 9 59 ds. A magificent example of this printing dated in the correct period, and with a famous pedigree, being from the Caspary, Burrus, Amundsen, Tomasini, Wiggins and ‘Manwood’ collections. With 1964 BPA Certificate
