    Deep Slate unused without gum, clear to good margins all round. Fine and very scarce. SG 89, Cat. £1000

    Slate-green fine colour unused without gum, margins all round (just clear at left, wide at base with portion of adjoining unit), minor staining on reverse. SG 91, Cat. £850

    Bluish-grey block of four with close to large margins all round, cancelled somewhat heavy Sydney obliterators otherwise very fine and scarce. Ex Burrus. SG 92, Cat. £220+

    Olive-grey horizontal strip of six with good to large margins all round, cancelled ‘NSW’ in concentric ovals. Few minor stains along top but otherwise in remarkably fine condition for such a large piece Blocks and strips of six are believed to be the largest used multiples known. SG 95, Cat. £210+

    Greyish-brown (2 overlapping singles, both large margins all round) tied on 1857 (23 May) envelope from Sydney to London endorsed ‘Simla’, with 3 AU 1857 arrival ds on face. Some flap tears but clean and very fine, especially with adhesives of this quality

    6d Diadem - selection of pairs (7) in Deep Slate, Greenish-grey, Grey, Olive-grey (2), Greyish-brown (2), all selected four-margin examples and virtually fault-free, three with dated Sydney duplexes. An exceptional used group (14)

    Estimate: $175 Realised Price : $180

    6d Diadem - group of four covers, comprising Slate-green on 1855 (18 Jul) and 1856 (31 May) envelopes from Sydney to London (the first per ‘Marco Polo’ packet with handstruck ‘5’ accountancy, the second a ship letter with handstruck ‘3’), Greyish-brown on 1859 (12 Aug) envelope from Sydney to England, Greyish-brown on 1858 (26 Feb) envelope from Bathurst to Scotland. The adhesives are very fine, small faults on a couple of the covers. A useful group (4 covers)

    6d Diadem - the remainder, comprising 59 singles and four pairs, covering all the catalogued shades, all selected examples with four margins and fine to very fine. Also two plate proofs in black. A very useful group for a study of the shades (67 + 2 proofs)
