    Small format master die Perkins Bacon trials with voided corners, sheet of six in Orange on white wove paper, superb. Ex Slade Slade

    Small format master die Perkins Bacon trials with voided corners, sheet of six in Bright Blue on gummed wove paper, resulting overall toning, with manuscript ‘No. 9’ at top. Ex Slade Slade

    1d Die Proof in Deep Scarlet, 55mm x 70mm. Said to have been pulled by De La Rue for the 1867 Paris Exhibition (but possibly for the 1872 South Kensington Exhibition). Each is pulled on thick card, and apart from occasional minor surface marks, are superb. It is generally stated that three sets of proofs were pulled. The set offered here is from the Dr. W.R.D. Wiggins collection; a second set is in the British Library, but the existence of a third set cannot be shown. A magnificent showpiece

    2d Die Proof in Deep Blue, 57mm x 77mm. Said to have been pulled by De La Rue for the 1867 Paris Exhibition (but possibly for the 1872 South Kensington Exhibition). Each is pulled on thick card, and apart from occasional minor surface marks, are superb. It is generally stated that three sets of proofs were pulled. The set offered here is from the Dr. W.R.D. Wiggins collection; a second set is in the British Library, but the existence of a third set cannot be shown. A magnificent showpiece
