    Estimate: $5,000 Realised Price : $3,800

1811 (17 Nov) entire from Sydney to Stirling, North Britain, endorsed 'Per Ship Friends', without New South Wales markings. Rated '1/1' on arrival, crossed through and changed to '2/2' (due to enclosure), and with MA 13 812 arrival backstamp. The letter encloses a payment and is signed by Maurice Charles O'Connell, commanding the 73rd Regiment, which had arrived in Sydney in 1809, who made him Lieutenant-Governor. He married former Governor Bligh's daughter and left the Colony for Ceylon in 1814. He returned in 1838 as a Major-General commanding all military forces in New South Wales, a position he held until 1847. Very fine, and a rare early letter from New South Wales
