    1854 (30 Dec) entire letter to Goulbourn (sic) endorsed 'first steamer' bearing 6d Woodblock pair tied by Barred Oval '1', with 'MELBOURNE/(crown)/VICTORIA' datestamp alongside (early use), Yass backstamp. Interesting contents referring to the completion of the building Temple Court in Collins St'. Most attractive

[This cover was carried on the inaugural sailing under the mail contract as P&O and GSS Co. Ships were requisitioned for the Crimea War]

Adhesives in somewhat variable condition, address partly painted-over, nevertheless a rare cover

    1858 (Jan) cover Melbourne to Walden endorsed 'Columbia/Via Marseilles' bearing Imperf 1/- Octagonal, Woodblock 6d and Emblem 2d, rated '8', carried by to Suez, overland to Alexandria, then by 'Wye' via Marseilles to Southampton and finally by 'Fulton' for crossing to New York where Packet datestamp was applied. Reverse showing superb strike of agent's cachet 'FORWARDED BY/NEWELL HOOPER/&/ STEVENS/MELBOURNE VICTORIA' in blue. Unlisted in Rowe's handbook. Beautiful cover
