    PICTURE POSTCARDS, GENERAL, HUMOUR

    Lot 28
    Estimate: $220

    Humour: Collection in binder, mostly British from early 1900s to 1920s, subjects include the post, insurance, money and finance, nursery rhymes, Scottish themes, sports, and beaches, with other miscellaneous cards included. A proportion of the cards have been used, and a number have small faults and blemishes, but the general condition is good to fine (approx 310)

       

    Lot 29
    Estimate: $150

    Humour: Collection in binder, probably all British and from early 1900s to 1920s, subjects include travel, robberies, coal, smoking, butchers/meat, and shopping on the cheap, together with other miscellaneous topics, and including several series or part series. A proportion are used, and a number of cards have small defects, but most are good to fine (200)

       

    Lot 30
    Estimate: $400 Realised Price : $300

    Humour: An extensive collection in two albums, early 1900s to 1920s and mostly British but also a quantity in French, covering a wide range of subjects including babies, politics, court, Charlie Chaplin, John Bull, vagabonds, couples, and many others, with several complete or partial series. A few duplicates are noted and a good proportion are used, and there are many cards with small faults or blemishes, but a greater quantity that are in good to fine condition (approx 520)

        

    Lot 31
    Estimate: $400 Realised Price : $340

    Humour: A further extensive collection in two albums, early 1900s to 1920 and virtually all British, many subjects covered including couples, children, sports, rhymes, and including a number of series or part series, from many different publishers. A few duplicates noted, but the large majority of cards differ from those in the previous lot. A good proportion are used and many cards with the usual small defects and blemishes, but the majority are good to fine (approx 500)

    Estimate: $80

    Humour - Boy Scouts: Series of six cards by Ernest Ibbetson published by C.W. Faulkner & Co in 1910 (two used, one somewhat stained, others minor blemishes), also a further group of humorous cards depicting Boy Scouts, by various artists 1910s to 1970s, mostly fine (total, 22 cards)

       

    Lot 33
    Estimate: $240

    Humour - Brian Fitzpatrick: Collection in album of 1950s to 1970s humorous cards by Brian Fitzpatrick, wide variety of subjects with many of the newer cards somewhat risqué. A small number are used, and a few have mostly minor defects, but the majority are fine to very fine. Retail is about £3 each (approx 240)

    Estimate: $100 Realised Price : $120

    Humour - Donald McGill: Small collection of early Donald McGill cards, 1900s to 1930s featuring a wide range of subjects, a proportion are used. There are few with small defects or blemishes but the vast majority are fine. Much scarcer material than the more recent McGill cards (70)

    Estimate: $250 Realised Price : $270

    Humour - Donald McGill: Extensive collection of early Donald McGill cards, 1900s to 1920s, wide range of the usual McGill subjects including a few military ones, and with a small number of duplicates. A proportion are used, and a number of cards have small defects or blemishes, but the majority are in good to fine condition (approx 200)

    Estimate: $130 Realised Price : $130

    Humour - Donald McGill: Collection of Donald McGill cards in album, 1940s and 1950s vintage, wide range of subjects, and including a small number of duplicates. A quantity are used and there are a few with small defects but the vast majority are fine to very fine (approx 165)

    Estimate: $150 Realised Price : $190

    Humour - Donald McGill: A further selection of Donald McGill cards in album dating from 1950s and 1960s, featuring a wide range of subjects, apparently no duplicates. A small proportion are used, and a few cards have small defects but condition is generally fine to very fine (approx 180)

    Estimate: $180 Realised Price : $180

    Humour - Donald McGill: A further selection of Donald McGill cards, 1950s and 1960s vintage, featuring a wide variety of subjects, a small number of duplicates are noted. Some are used, and a few cards with small blemishes, but condition is generally fine to very fine (approx 200)

    Estimate: $200 Realised Price : $170

    Humour - Military: Collection in album featuring World War I - German (these are reprints), French and British cards and World War II - mostly British and American cards, also several with Australian soldiers, many different themes are covered including patriotism, authority, women at war. Some are almost certainly reprints. A few cards are used, and a proportion are with spotting or other blemishes, but many are fine. A useful group (156)

    Estimate: $80

    Humour - World War II: Collection in album of American World War II humorous cards, a number of different series are represented, with several by identified artists, a few are used and the general condition is very good to fine (78)

       

    Lot 41
    Estimate: $200

    Humour - Arnold Taylor: Extensive collection of humorous cards by Arnold Taylor, published 1930s to 1970s, range of subjects but mostly of a racy nature, there are a few duplicates. A few are used and some have small defects, however condition is generally fine. Retail about $3-$4 each (approx 250)

       

    Lot 42
    Estimate: $50 Realised Price : $44

    Humour - Toilets: Small collection of early 1900s French cards featuring toilet humour, most are used and some have small defects but the majority are good to fine (39)
