    The following 22 lots comprise a collection of Post World War II Airmails formed by Raymond Kelly, FAP. Ray has produced an annotated, spiral bound copy of this collection, comprising many AAMC listed and unlisted flights, maps and aircraft photos, with descriptive text providing background data to complement the envelope illustrations. It comprises 57 pages, mostly in colour, and has a limited print run. This useful reference for the PNG aero philatelist is available on request for AU$40 plus postage.

    1949 (2 Jun) envelope franked 5½d endorsed 'FIRST FLIGHT COVER SAMARAI TO PORT MORESBY' but cancelled at Losuia, pilot-signed Capt. Hugh Birch, with enclosed letter written by Mrs Frank Clune (wife of well-known PNG author/historian) on board MV 'Laurabada', official yacht of the Administrator His Honor Col. J.K. Murray. An AAMC unrecorded intermediate first flight and very seldom seen ship letter from the 'Laurabada' (2 items)

    1949 (22-23 Aug) QANTAS Catalina 'Island Chieftain' VH-EBC extension first flight Kikori - Lake Kutubu (and return), pilot-signed Hugh M. Birch, reverse endorsed by ADO S. Smith O/C Lake Kutubu, with Kikori backstamp 23 August - a 'boomerang' cover; also Feb 1957 QANTAS envelope endorsed 'via Daru/Lake Kutubu/Kikori/ Kerema/Yule Island/Port Moresby - not a first flight, unrecorded. Two very scarce flights, underrated in AAMC (2 covers)

    1949 (8-9 Nov) QANTAS flights to Northern District by QEA 'Dragon' VH-AQW, pilot W.F. Hosking. A complete set of flights Port Moresby to Kokoda and Higaturu plus return flights Higaturu to Kokoda and Port Moresby, all addressed to Hudson Fysh. To date these are the only recorded covers, endorsed and pilot signed on reverse (AAMC P186a-d). Fine and rare, undercatalogued (4 covers)

    1949 (7 Dec) Tasman and Mortlock Islands flights: Sohano - Nukumanu and Sohano - Tauu covers, both franked 5½d and cancelled 7 December, both with ornate hand-illustrated maps of the route to the isolated islands, addressed to Hudson Fysh (AAMC 188-188) (2 covers)

Voyce air mail cover franked 6d Kookaburra cancelled Charters Towers 17 Sep, underpaid ½d and with mss 'TAX 1d' (not collected), also endorsed 'Per Amphibious Airways 'Walrus' First Flight Rabaul - Buin 6.10.51' with Buin arrival 6 Oct. A very scarce cover (AAMC P192), grossly undercatalogued at AU$125

    1951 (10 Oct) A.H. Voyce registered cover franked 9d cancelled at Kieta endorsed 'Per Catalina Kieta - Buin 10/10/51', with oval 'S.DISTRICT OFFICER KIETA' oval used as registration handstamp signed by Postmaster, with MV 'MALAKUNA' cachets. A very scarce and colourful combination ship letter/air mail Voyce cover, and very rare registered (AAMC P195)

    1955 (Feb) A.H. Voyce covers (2) to New Zealand cancelled at Samarai 22 February, and at Madang 25 February, each on QANTAS Empire Airways Ltd. company envelopes endorsed 'FIRST FLIGHT OF 'CATALINA' TAKING OVER FROM 'SANDRINGHAM' '. NB: Sandringham flights are not recorded in AAMC (2 covers)

    1955 (19 Apr) air mail envelope franked 3½d to Buin via Rabaul endorsed 'Qantas Empire Airways Carried by 'Sandringham' Flying boat Port Moresby to Esa'ala 19.4.55'. Stamp cancelled at Esa'ala and cover signed by crew M. Burgess (Capt), K. Gordon (E/O) and J. Haylock (F/O). 'Sandringham' flights are not recorded in AAMC

    1956 Postal Rates Change: Super Constellations (VH-EAR and VH-EAO) flight covers, first franked 6½d and endorsed 'LAST OFFICIAL AIR MAIL AT CURRENT RATES' and other franked 7d and endorsed 'FIRST OVERSEAS AIRMAIL REVISED POSTAL CHARGES'. Both with QANTAS labels and cancelled at Rabaul October 29 and November 1. Genuine, scarce covers (2 covers)

    Combination Police Runner Service/Air Mails: 1957 (10 Dec) Buin - Port Moresby franked 3d, with 2d tax paid by 2d Native Boy (as postal charge); 1956 (Apr and Jun) envelopes franked 3½d from Rev. Carter (Keseku Mission), one by Police runner with Sohano cds, other 'Bagged' mail ex Cape Teopasina to Rabaul, thence Port Moresby. All were commercial mail from Bougainville collector missionaries. (Lot includes photocopy of article by H. Gisburn on Police runner services) (3 covers)
