Following membership of the U.P.U., all specimen stamps were supplied by Queensland in normal unused condition, with the exception of the 1909 4d grey-black which was cancelled-to-order. Queensland U.P.U. stamps can therefore only be identified when bearing additional handstamps from the receiving postal administrations. Between 1895 and 1910 U.P.U. specimen stamps sent to Lisbon for distribution to Portuguese Colonies were further handstamped ‘ULTRAMAR’ prior to despatch
