A scarce group (5) The Platypus issue, first issued as duty stamps in 1880, were authorised for postal use from 1 November 1882. A small quantity was overprinted SPECIMEN in 1886 for exchange purposes
Lot 248		Estimate: $175 Realised Price : $230 1889(?) Wmk TAS (Type II) Perf 14 1d Slate, 3d Red-Brown (2), 6d Lilac and 1/- Carmine (2) optd SPECIMEN Type 2 (17 x 2mm) vertically, 1d thinned and 6d with diagonal crease, part o.g. One 3d shows broken ‘C’ in ‘SPECIMEN’, a constant variety (6)

Wmk TAS (Type II) Perf 14 3d Red-Brown blocks of 4 (2, showing Plate No. 1 and Current No. 8), and 1/- Carmine blocks of 4 (2) from top right and lower left corners showing Current No. 8, all optd SPECIMEN Type 2 (17 x 2mm) vertically. Both 3d blocks with diagonal creases, and plate no. block with some spots on face in selvedg. Scarce multiples with full o.g. (16)
Lot 250		Estimate: $150 Realised Price : $135 1901 Reprint on Thin Gummed Card Perf 11½ 1d Deep Blue (5, including a Plate 1 block of 4), and 6d Pale Mauve blocks of 4 (2) with Plate No. 1 and Current No. 8, optd ‘REPRINT’ (17 x 2½mm), fine and large part o.g. (13) These two values had become obsolete and were specially reprinted for inclusion in Federal Parliamentary sets
