This canceller was in use for three days only. 1982 BPA Certificate

    1915 (4 Apr) registered envelope cover to Sydney bearing \'G.R.I./3d\' on Rabaul registration label together with N. W. Pacific Islands opt Kangaroo 2½d tied by framed Powell type 54 datestamps (lettering and figures very clear for this), superb \'PASSED-BY-CENSOR\' and fine strike of \'3rd. Batt. N. and M. Forces/Trop.Unit.\' in violet, Sydney arrival backstamp. A very rare canceller and the first example we have offered. [This cover is the example mentioned on page 22 of Powell]

    1915 (10 May) registered cover Rabaul to U.S.A. bearing \'G.R.I./3d\' on Rabaul Registration label, SG 33d, and NWPI ½d and 2d tied by Powell type 53 datestamp, \'CENSORED\' in violet (Humphreys type 3), held there until December and forwarded to Sydney where \'PASSED BY CENSOR/25 DE 15/C.S.\' handstamp applied, \'OPENED BY CENSOR.\' on two sides, backstamps including \'PASSED/(manuscript 31/12/15)/D.C.C.AUST.\', Chicago datestamps and New York registered handstamp (over label) on arrival, minor filing crease. A rare usage

    1915 (11 Jun) registered cover to U.S.A. bearing \'G.R.I./3d\' on Rabaul registration label with variety \'No bracket before \'Deutsch-Neuguinea\'\', SG 33dd, together with NWPI opts ½d, 1d, 2d and 2½d tied by strikes of Powell type 53 oval datestamps, censor tape at left, \'PASSED BY CENSOR\' in violet on both sides, transit and arrival backstamps. 1976 BPA Certificate (as then SG 33d) stating \'... Registration label bas been lifted and replaced incorrectly.\' [SG 33dd cat £1500 as used stamp]

A rare and attractive combination

    1915 (30 Jul) reply portion of \'G.R.I./2d. on 10pf Carmine Postal Card, addressed to Lt. Colonel Toll, cancelled by Powell type 55 datestamp. [Colonel Toll, besides being the commanding officer of the 3rd Battalion, was also the acting administrator who proclaimed martial law in 1915 and interned all the German inhabitants]
