    1855-71 Diadem selection comprising imperf 1d mint (part o.g with gum stains), 6d (6) all used & 8d fine used, the majority with four margins plus Perf 12 3d Bluish-Green (unused, defective perfs and toned) & 5d Dull Green (part o.g) and Perf 13 mint or unused range 1d, 3d (10 in various shades, 2 with Wmk '6' and one optd 'SPECIMEN'), 5d Dark Green (5 inc a pair and one optd 'SPECIMEN'), 8d optd 'SPECIMEN and 1/- (2, one optd 'SPECIMEN') plus the 2d compound perf 12 x 13 (rough at top and base) with 'Rideout' cancel Majority fine (30)

    Selection of mint and used perforated Diadems comprising 3d Wmk Crown over NSW types mint (5 - one Wmk '10') and a single used showing a doubling of the printing of the upper half, 5d Wmk '5' imperf used (4 - one dated in 1855, 5d Wmk '5' perf 13 mint, 5d Wmk Crown over NSW types mint or unused (5) and used (93 - one with a New Caledonia cds, three with perfs trimmed off) and 8d Wmk Crown over NSW types mint or unused (5) and used (64 - inc a pair, five with perfs trimmed off and one optd 'OS') and one optd 'SPECIMEN'. Mixed condition though a good variety of shades (178)

    1d Orange-red marginal vertical pair with burelage in the left margin. Re-inforced between the units, faint crease at lower left and without gum though a very rare and attractive pair

    2d Plate II Retouched selection: Prussian Blue [44] and [56] both showing redrawing of line over 'TWO PENCE' and Second Retouch [57] with extensive crude redrawing of the background and below the neck, slight soiling otherwise all fine used and all cancelled ray type numeral (3)

    6d Violet marginal vertical pair with burelage (in greyish-lilac) in the left margin. Large part original smooth slightly brownish gum, the lower unit unmounted. Very fine. Ex Frazer

    8d Orange Diadem, centred right, good used with uncommon experimental 'Rideout' cancel '3' within diamond. A sound example. SG 151 Cat £1200

    8d Orange Diadem, centred far right, cancelled part Sydney GPO duplex, one blunt corner perf though a presentable example of this scarce stamp. SG 151 Cat £1200

    3d Yellow-green marginal block of six (2 x 3) with burelage in left margin. Lower four units unmounted. Large part original brownish gum and a vertical crease in the margin that does not detract from this very rare block

     

    Lot 102
    Estimate: $2,750

    3d Dull Green marginal block of six (2 x 3) with at least three units never mounted and showing burelage in the margin. Several light vertical creases, a few stains in the margin and the rear with thick brown gum. Another very rare multiple

    6d Emergency Wmk Double-lined '5' centred lower right with part o.g. with a few blunt perfs. SG 165a Cat £650

    1/- Carmine marginal block of four from the lower left, and with burelage in left margin. Large part o.g. with perforations at base reinforced and a diagonal crease at lower left affecting the third unit. Nevertheless an impressive multiple and possibly unique from this position. Ex Frazer

     

    Lot 105

    1/- Carmine marginal block of four with burelage in left margin. Large part original streaky brownish gum, the first unit with a very tiny thin otherwise a very rare and impressive block

    1/- Carmine horizontal pair with burelage in left margin with large part o.g. Fine and attractive. Ex Frazer

     

    Lot 107
    Estimate: $3,000 Realised Price : $2,400

    Watermark Double-lined '1' Compound Perf 12 x 13 1d Scarlet tied by Sydney '3' in diamond Rideout machine obliterator to 1862 (17 Feb) town letter. Believed to be the only example of this very rare stamp known on cover, and more remarkable by virtue of its association with the scarce Rideout experimental duplex. 2003 RPSL Certificate
