1902-04 Base Completed ½d to 20/- set overprinted SPECIMEN as used by New South Wales for distribution to U.P.U. with additional 'ULTRAMAR' handstamp in blue applied on Lisbon to stamps distributed to Portuguese Colonies. No gum and colour a little washed out as always seen for this set, which is rarely offered in this complete form. BW cat AU$4725
1902-04 Base Completed 5d, 1/- and 2/- (2) overprinted SPECIMEN (18¼ x 2½mm) vertically reading up (5d, 2/-) or down (1/-) as used by Tasmania for distribution to the U.P.U., one 2/- a little faded and no gum, 1/- tone spots on gum. BW D29x, D37x, D40x, cat AU$525 (4)
1902-04 Base Completed Watermark Crown over NSW ½d to 20/- overprinted SPECIMEN (Type 2) affixed by hinges to presentation letter (335 x 207mm) from the Acting Deputy Postmaster-General to the NSW Government Printer W.A. Gullick (the printer of the stamps). The letter is a little defective with some staining, the stamps are mostly fine (a few with varying degrees of toning) and large part OG. A significant document, with no similar example known
1902-04 Base Completed Watermark Crown over NSW 5d Emerald Perf 11½-12 horizontal pair over SPECIMEN Type 1 reading up, large part OG, a scarce multiple. BW D29x, cat AU$200+
1902-04 Base Completed Watermark Crown over NSW Perf 11½,12 2/- Dull Green block of 12 (4 x 3) cancelled Brisbane octagonal ds NO 11 02, very fine and a rare multiple. BW D40 cat AU$600+, SG D20 cat £216+
1902-04 Base Completed Watermark Crown over NSW 1/- and 2/- used on 1905 (12 May) Tattersalls cover from Cathcart (Cape Colony) to Hobart with 1d, underpaid 1½d with handstruck octagonal 'T/15', the 1/- and 2/- postage dues affixed and tied by Hobart cds. The correct charge should have been a double deficiency of 3d, and this is clearly a case of the shilling values being accidentally used instead of the pence values. The only such instance of which we are aware, and a clear demonstration of the need to differentiate the shilling values by the addition of a stroke, which did not happen until 1908-9. Very fine apart from the usual repaired spike hole, and the only recorded example of the 2/- postage due on cover (BW cat AU$1500)
1902-04 Base Completed Watermark Crown over NSW Perf 11½,12 x 11 ½d Emerald gutter block of 4 from top of sheet showing variety 'Double Perforation' along top, and also with an additional vertical line of perforations in the gutter. Colour a little faded (as are all other examples) and no gum, however rare. BW D13b, undercatalogued at AU$200+
1902-04 Base Completed Watermark Crown over NSW Perf 11½,12 x 11 5/- Emerald used block of 24 (4 x 6) cancelled circular 'P.R./PERTH W.A.' Some tone spots on reverse and a few split perfs reinforced, strong colour and fine appearance, rare in multiples of this size. BW D42A cat AU$1200+ SG D33 cat £576+
1902-04 Base Completed Watermark Crown over NSW 5/- Dull Green Perf 12 x 11 irregular block of 54 cancelled 'PARCEL POST TOWNSVILLE/QUEENSLAND' cds affixed to sheet headed 'Townsville June 12th 1925' and endorsed 'Landing charges and Com Tax on 120 parcels £13-10-0'. One stamp defective and a few with small stains nevertheless an extraordinary and unique usage. A number of other (smaller) blocks used in Townsville in 1925-26 are known, and indicate the retention of stocks of this high value for over 20 years. For those who might wish the use of the 10/- or 20/- stamps instead of the 5/-, those two higher values were never sent to Queensland. A major rarity of the monocolour postage dues
1902-04 Base Completed 10/- Dull Green cancelled by two very light strikes of portion of cds in violet, very fine. With 2020 RPSV Certificate stating 'no comment on the source of the cancel', however the colour matches that seen for the Sydney Parcels Branch cds which occurs as a genuine cancellation on this stamp. SG D43 cat £1800, BW D44 cat AU$4000
1902-04 Base Completed 20/- Dull Green good colour and very fine used, cancelled by portion of Sydney Parcels Branch cds in violet, rare. SG catalogue used at £2250, considerable less than their mint price (£4000), however the used stamp is far scarcer than mint. BW D45, cat AU$7500
