'1/4' applied and crossed-out, '1/8' mss./MORE TO PAY' in blue oval applied and mss. 'Paid', backstamps of London, Melbourne and Heathcote

    Taxed: 1870 (10 Sep) cover Melbourne to England with 6d and 4d (fault) cancelled by duplex with 8 30 time instead of code letter (the only recorded example), and framed 'INSUFFICIENTLY PAID/FOR BRINDISI ROUTE/DEFICIENT POSTAGE/ d3' in black, 'POSTED OUT OF/COURSE' in circle, arrival backstamp. Few small faults, still an exceptional cover and superb strike of this famous tax marking
