Our winter sale commenced with collections and accumulations, including a group of World War I De Landre propaganda labels,
and ranges of Italy, Japan and New Zealand, followed by a selection of literature. Australian Colonies featured a Queensland collection, Chalon types with proofs and multiples, an 1865 entire letter to England from the short-lived Valley of Lagoons post office, fiscals with good selections of Beer, Impressed and Stamp Duty issues, as well as Railway stamps; South Australia postal history featured OS stamps and 4d thin Postage long type on cover; Tasmania with Sideface and Tablet proofs, revenues, postal history including a range of second-allocation numerals; Victoria was highlighted by another fine selection of Half-Lengths; and Western Australia featured a nice group of town cancellations.
Australian Commonwealth included Kangaroo Issues with First Watermark 10/-, £1 and £2 cancelled-to-order, Second Watermark 6d Die IIA substituted cliché, Third Watermark 6d Die IIB T.S. Harrison imprint pair, and other watermarks with values to £2. The King George V sideface issues featured imprints and varieties in positional pieces, Small Multiple Wmk 4½d Die II cancelled-to-order in a block of four, and a very fine 1932 2d Scarlet postal forgery. The 1927-36 issues included the 1/- Lyrebird overprinted OS in block of eight with Plate Dot, and the King George VI issues were highlighted by the 1937-49 1/- Lyrebird showing Plate No. 4. There was a good range of other issues, with Decimal errors, Postage Dues including a range of covers, Stationery, Postal History including Military Mail, and Aerophilately.
Rest of the World featured the Bahamas with 1916 Special Delivery overprint errors; Barbados 1947 ONE/PENNY on 2d double surcharge; Canada 1928-29 KGV imperforate tete-beche pairs from booklet sheets; Fiji 1887 Cake Fair envelope and essay/proof; Gilbert and Ellice Islands postal history, ranges of Great Britain, Hong Kong and Malaysian States revenues; Natal 1868 revenue proofs; New Zealand with 1862-63 pelure paper Chalon 6d on cover, KEVII and KGV proofs, Decimal varieties/errors; Northern Rhodesia 1963 QEII Arms errors; a further offering of Papua New Guinea Courvoisier proofs; South West Africa, including postage dues; and U.S.A. |
