    c1915 Reeves & Ellis (NSW) set of picture postcards 'Australia's Occupation of New Guinea' comprising Palm Island triptych of soldiers training en route to New Guinea, 'Hoisting the British Flag at Rabaul', 'Native Prisoners brought into Rabaul from the hills', 'Changing guard at Rabaul', 'Holmes Avenue, Rabaul' (named after the Australian OIC), and 'Native Dance (Sing-sing)'. All fine to very fine, and very scarce and desirable. Realised AU$1300 at a 2012 Melbourne auction (6)

    1915 (26 Aug) cover sent from Rockcorry (Ireland) to Warrant Officer James Brown (Radio Section No. 559) on Nauru, endorsed 'Via Sydney' and with Yokohama (Japan) backstamp of 24.7.16 in violet. Brown arrived in Rabaul on 25 October 1915 and on 29 February 1916 was transferred to the Naval (Radio Telegraph) Branch and sent to Nauru. Mail to members of the Australian occupying force on Nauru is rare. Cover roughly opened, otherwise good

Few tears caused by opening, but of good appearance

The writer states '... we recon to reach Albany tomorrow . . . & stop there for 5 or 6 days . . . we would not be able to get leave to go ashore . . . we are not calling at Fremantle they still think we are going to England . . . ' A very early First Convoy letter
