    1902 Perkins, Bacon & Co. handpainted essay for a 'Crown over A' Watermark on thick card (86mm x 934mm), with Perkins, Bacon & Co. oval cachet in purple on reverse. This artwork is recorded in the Company's Engraving book under date 25 July 1902, and was sent to the Postmaster-Generals' Department on 30 July. Fine, and the earliest recorded suggestion for the Crown over A Watermark which became standard a few years later.

    c1903 1d Purple Commonwealth of Australia essay featuring head of King Edward VII, inscribed 'SOUTH AUSTRALIA' at base, prepared by A. Powell and lithographed on unwatermarked white wove paper, Perf 14. The only recorded example in this colour, unfortunately with pink stains on portrait and at base. With 1977 RPSL Certificate. BW E20C, cat AU$2000

    c1903 1d Ochre Commonwealth of Australia essay featuring the head of King Edward VII and inscribed 'SOUTH AUSTRALIA' at base, prepared by A. Powell and lithographed on unwatermarked white wove paper, Perf 14. Only four examples of this essay are recorded, each in a different colour. With 1977 RPSL Certificate. BW E20D, cat AU$3000

    1911 Stamp Design Competition: Series of six designs lithographed by R.H. Irwin of Western Australia on surface-coloured thin card, comprising 1d Black on Red (George V), 1d Black on Pink (Sydney Harbour), 2½d Black on Blue (Sydney Harbour), 4d Black on Cream (Ship), 5d Black on Yellow (Ship), and 1/- bromide (State Emblems), the latter uncatalogued and a recent discovery, affixed on piece and endorsed "Thistle", identifying Irwin's nom-de-plume. This series comprises six of the eight recorded designs by Irwin. The 2½d wth some small surface damage, others fine. BW E101, 102, 103, 105, 106 plus uncatalogued 1/-, the five catalogued designs AU$10,000 (6)

    1911 Stamp Design Competition: Letterpress-printed by Mr Grant of Wonthaggi (Vic), comprising 1d Black (Coat-of-Arms) and 1d Scarlet (King George V), each mounted on small piece. Fine, note that these are the original 1911 entries and not reprints from the printing block taken in recent times. BW E108, E109, cat AU$4000 (2)

    1911 Stamp Design Competition: Board (228mm x 45mm) with eight E.T. Luke half-tone printed essays on this glazed paper affixed, comprising the George V design in Red-brown, Purple, Blue, and Green (the last three undenominated), and Cockatoo Design in Red-brown, Violet, Blue, and Green (the last three undenominated). An exceptional group of these rare essays. BW E112A,C,D and E116A-D,F, cat AU$12,000
