    1853 (10 May) cover to London with 3d Dull Yellow-green Laureate on Bluish Wove (four margins and very fine) tied by Sydney barred obliterator, endorsed 'P Harbinger steamer' and with despatch and arrival backstamps. Charged '8'(d) as an incoming ship letter. A beautiful cover

    1854 (21 Jan) outer from Sydney to Bathurst with 2d Deep Prussian Blue Plate II Laureate tied by barred obliterator, and with framed italic 'TOO LATE', with despatch and arrival datestamps. Light vertical fold, otherwise very fine, ex Pack and Forster

    1854 (31 May) cover from Parramatta to Newtown, Sydney with 2d Plate II Laureate Watermark Double-lined '2' (four margins) cancelled '2' numeral, and with 'FORWARD/N.S.W.' datestamp, Parramatta oval crowned backstamp. The scarce Forward marking was used for missorted mail sent to Sydney

    1854 (14 Jul) opened-out large linen-backed cover (220mm x 111mm) to Birmingham franked 6d Deep Slate Diadem Imperf tied by Sydney barred obliterator, endorsed 'Queen of the South', reverse with despatch and arrival datestamps. Franked for a single rate, but with mss '4/-' due from addressee indicating letter was overweight. Some ageing and soiling

    1854 (21 Jul) cover to London with 1d Red-orange and 2d Plate III Ultramarine Laureates (both fine with close but clear margins) tied by Sydney barred obliterators, endorsed 'p "Norna" Via Southampton' and with despatch and arrival backstamps. 1/- charged to the addressee as an incoming packet letter. very light soiling does not detract

Indistinct Sydney despatch' 'AUSTRALIAN/LIVERPOOL/PACKET' and Birmingham arrival datestamps on reverse. 6d ship letter plus 6d registration fee, with handstruck '5' accountancy mark and 'd6' incoming registration charge. A fine early registered letter

A fine cover of exceptional quality

    1856 (16 Dec) cover from Sydney to London with 6d Deep Greenish-slate Diadem Imperf cancelled barred obliterator, and tied by London arrival datestamp. Endorsed 'Pr Woolloomoolloo' and with handstruck '3' accountancy mark in red as a private ship letter. Very fine and clean

Endorsed 'p "European" & via Marseilles', and with Sydney despatch and Worcester arrival backstamps. A fine example of the ½ ounce Marseilles rate

    1857 (18 Jun) entire (one side flap missing) from Sydney to London, with 6d Greyish-brown (2) and 1/- Pale Red Imperf Diadems (all with four margins) cancelled by dumb obliterators, endorsed 'via Marseilles' and with 29 AU 1857 arrival ds in red. One 6d crossed by vertical filing crease, still a scarce 2/- Marseilles rate cover

    1857 (10 Dec) envelope from Sydney to Leicester U.K. bearing imperf 1d Orange-red (torn in lower right corner) cancelled dumb obliterator, and endorsed 'From Geo. Millican, Seaman on board H.M.S. "Herald", Australian Station', signed by John Hutchinson (Commanding Officer). Leicester arrival backstamp, FE 7 58. Very rare, believed to be one of only two military concessional rate covers bearing an imperf N.S.W. stamp, ex Trevor Davis and Ed Druce

    1857 (12 Dec) with 6d Olive-grey Diadem Imperf (2, one good margins all round, other touched on two sides and with corner fault) cancelled Sydney barred obliterators, endorsed 'Pr European', and with London arrival backstamp (FE 6 1858). Missing back flap, but a fine usage demonstrating the supplementary mail rate of 6d ship plus 6d supplementary fee to carry mail to Melbourne to connect with the U.K. steamer

    1858 (11 Sep) large part outer from Sydney to Liverpool 'pr European S Supplementary' and franked 1/- Brownish-red Imperf Diadem (close to large margins) with central cancel of NSW in concentric ovals (not tied), representing the ship letter plus 6d supplementary fee for carriage to Melbourne to meet a ship already departed Sydney. Few file folds though a scarce example of this service

Portion of back flap cut away, otherwise a fine and clean cover. New South Wales covers with forwarding agent handstamps are rare, this agent being unrecorded by Rowe

A very fine and attractive example of the 9d ¼ ounce rate

Envelope without flap and few small faults

Underpaid but with no indication of any tax being paid, with 'SHIP LETTER/LONDON datestamp in red and Newtown, Sydney and Aberdeen backstamps. Very fine, and an interesting cover
