    1861 (27 Feb) cover to Melbourne with 6d Wmk Large Star Clean-cut Perf 14-16 tied by Brisbane duplex, Melbourne arrival backstamp in red, very fine

    1862 (18 Jan) OHMS outer to Brisbane with 1860-61 Wmk Small Star Rough Perf. 14-16 2d Blue tied by '214' in rays of Toowoomba, despatch, Ipswich and Brisbane arrival datestamps on reverse, very fine and unlisted in Palmer census

    Estimate: $400 Realised Price : $300

    1862 (19 Mar) outer (repaired in places, slightly shorted at left) with Wmk Small Star Rough Perf 14-16 2d Blue strip of 6 tied by '131' in rays of Gladstone, the Sydney arrival mark is missing. Ironed out vertical crease affects one stamp, nevertheless the strip is fine and a very rare franking to meet the double ship letter rate

    1862 (16 Dec) cover from Ipswich to Mount Brisbane with 1d Watermark Large Star Rough Perf 14-16 tied by '81' in rays, sent at town letter rate. Very fine

    1863 (17 Feb) cover to Glasgow endorsed 'Via Marseilles' and with 1860-61 Wmk Small Star Rough Perf 14-16 3d Brown, 6d Deep Green and 6d Yellow-green (2) cancelled Brisbane 'QL' in concentric oval obliterators, reverse with despatch and arrival datestamps. Some light soiling however very attractive and a very unusual combination franking of two different 6d printings for the 1/9d 3/4 ounce rate via Marseilles

    1863 (15 Oct) outer to Sydney with 1860-61 Wmk Small Star Rough Perf 14-16 3d Brown vertical pair tied by illegible '110' numerals of Surat, reverse with Surat, Brisbane and 'SHIP-LETTER/SYDNEY' datestamps. Light vertical filing fold, otherwise fine and unlisted in Palmer census

    1864-77 group of covers with 2d Chalons to pay the inland rate, with 1864 Ipswich to Brisbane with 2d No Wmk Perf 13 Rough, 1868 Townsville to Bowen, 1869 Dalby to Toowoomba, 1870 Nebo to St. Lawrence, 1871 Brisbane to Toowoomba, 1873 Rockhampton local, 1877 Rockhampton to St. Lawrence with Wmk Truncated Star or Wmk Crown over Q Perf 13. Some faults, but several are fine (7 covers)

    1865 (19 Apr) outer from Brisbane to London with 1862-67 No Wmk Perf 13 Rough 1d Orange-vermilion, 3d Brown and 1/- Grey tied by 'QL' in rays, endorsed 'Via "Marseilles" ' and reverse with 'SHIP LETTER/QUEENSLAND' datestamp. the 1/4d franking represents the 10d via Marseilles rate plus 6d late fee. A fine and very scarce cover, not listed in the Palmer census

    1865 (18 Dec) cover from Ipswich to Frampton Cottrell, Gloucestershire with 1864-65 Wmk Small Star Perf 13 6d Yellow-green indistinctly cancelled, reverse with Ipswich despatch cds, 'SHIP LETTER/QUEENSLAND' cds, and arrival datestamps. Roughly opened on reverse with portion of flap missing

An exceptional quality cover from the Johnstone correspondence

    1868 (4 Jul) cover to Preston, U.K. with Wmk Truncated Star Perf 13 2d Pale Blue pair (from the first printing on this paper) and 1862-67 No Wmk Perf 13 Clean-cut 6d Apple-green cancelled '23' in bars of Roma, endorsed 'Via Marseilles' and with Brisbane transit and Preston arrival backstamps. A fine and attractive mixed issue franking

Manuscript '1'(d) redirection charge. An attractive 10d via Marseilles rate

    1869 (13 Jan) cover to Bowen with Wmk Crown over Q (I) Perf 13 2d Deep Blue (4) tied by '59' in rays of Townsville, endorsed 'Per Roma', and with arrival backstamp. Horizontal fold, and somewhat roughly opened at top, nevertheless a scarce quadruple rate inland cover, unlisted in the Palmer census
