    1823 (17 Feb) entire to Hobart Town with very fine (slightly overinked) strike of the 35mm circular 'LAUNCESTON'. Unquestionably one of the finest strikes known of this famous postal marking. Without any rate marking (the charge between Launceston and Hobart Town was 1/- up to 1 ounce)

Very fine

    1860 (20 Jan) entire to Launceston with 1857-60 Watermark Double-lined '4' Imperf 4d Pale Blue (margins all round, just clear at top) tied by fine '52' numeral, with 'Ross 19 Jun 60' postmaster's endorsement at left, and Launceston 'PRE-PAID' boxed ds in red on reverse. Horizontal filing fold, otherwise very fine

    Savings Bank Packets: 1882 (15 Sep) cover from Franklin to Hobart with 1d Sideface tied by '43' numeral, endorsed 'Savings Bank Packet Only' and '513/Registered', Hobart arrival cds on reverse. A special concession rate for savings bank books came into force on 1 January 1882 of 1d per 4oz with free registration included. To qualify, the packet had to be clearly marked with the contents, endorsed by the sender on the front, and could not contain any other written material. Cover with a few minor blemishes, but the earliest known example of the special concession rate

    Savings Bank Packets: 1885 (2 Feb) and (22 Jul) envelopes with printed 'SAVINGS BANK PACKET ONLY.' franked with 2d and 1d Sideface respectively and sent from Bracknell to Hobart. Both envelopes are without the sender's endorsement as required by regulation and unusual as such. Horizontal folds on each, and the earlier cover with some blemishes (2 covers)

    Savings Bank Packets: 1892 (1 Mar) 1d Red Embossed stamped-to-order envelope (136 x 80mm) for the Hobart Savings Bank inscribed 'Savings Bank Packet Only', cancelled Hobart duplex and used to Franklin at the special 1d concession rate, with chamfered boxed Hobart Registration handstamp in red, very fine, the envelope rated R by Groom & Shatten

    Savings Bank Packets: 1892 (19 May) customer-made registered wrapper front endorsed 'Savings Bank Packet only', franked 1d Sideface tied by numeral and with New Norfolk despatch cds, and with 'R' in circle, addressed to Hobart. Believed to be the earliest known use of the 'R' in circle handstamp on registered mail.

Short tear at top of envelope, otherwise fine and rate R by Groom & Shatten

    Savings Bank Packets: 1896 (28 Feb) envelope front with printed 'SAVINGS BANK PACKET ONLY.' with 1d Sideface tied by '?9' numeral (Kellys Point) sent unregistered and addressed to Hobart. At Hobart the 'OFFICIALLY/REGISTERED/......TO PAY' without any amount entered as the 1d concessionary rate covered the registration fee. Minor blemishes but very scarce, less than 10 officially registered Savings Packets are recorded

    Savings Bank Packets: 1899 (date from endorsement on reverse) envelope front with printed 'SAVINGS BANK PACKET ONLY.' with 1d Sideface tied by multiple strikes of Glenora(?) cds, sent unregistered to Hobart. At Hobart endorsed 'OR' in manuscript and 'OFFICIALLY/REGISTERED/......TO PAY' handstamp in blue applied (no postage due as registration was covered by the 1d concessionary rate. Front with horizontal fold, otherwise fine and very scarce, less than 10 officially registered items are recorded

This cover meets the regulations for the 1d concessionary rate, but has been sent unregistered, minor blemishes
