    1870-80 Sidefaces, comprising 1870-71 Wmk '10' 1d double perf at left with mss cancel, 1871 Wmk 'TAS' 3d Purple-brown block of four cancelled '76', the lower right unit (defective) showing the plate scratch flaw on R10/1, and 1880 Wmk 'TAS' 3d Red-brown unmounted block of four from lower left corner of right pane (9)

    -: 1d, 2d, 3d, 4d Blue, 4d Bistre, 8d, 9d, 10d and 5/-on unwmkd paper (4d Bistre and 8d almost pelure), optd 'REPRINT’ without stop. Few perf faults (especially 4d Bistre and 8d), still a scarce 'set' (9)

    1871-79 6d Chalon Wmk Double-Lined numeral Perf 11½ range on leaves, SG 136-39, with Bright Violet unused and used (7), Dull Reddish Lilac mint (4), used (11, incl a pair) and a single on neat 1874 (13 Jun) cover Launceston to England, Lilac used (4), Deep Slate-lilac mint (4) and used (12), mostly fine. Cat approx £2538 (43 + 1 cover)

    1873-78 1/- Chalon Perf 11½ range on leaves, SG 140-41, with Brown-red (2 mint, used pair and single), Orange or Red-orange (11 mint/unused incl two pairs and 6 used incl a pair and two singles with 'LATE/LETTER' handstamps), mostly fine. Cat approx £2500 (22)

    PTPO Wrappers: 1882? ½d Orange embossed PTPO Newspaper wrappers, each on different coloured paper with printed 'Newspaper Only.' and 'From' within lines for the sender's details. One defective at rear and one with small stain, otherwise fine and attractive unused (6)

     

    Lot 565
    Estimate: $70

    Frank Stamps: 'The Chief Secretary' in blue on small envelope with pre-printed 'On Public Service only', ' 'Boys' Home Subscription' and address of 'Mr E Hawson, Hobart', unused; plus 1890 (11 Feb)'Secretary of the General Post Office' Frank in blue on official envelope to Launceston. A few minor faults and hinge remains on rear, still both presentable (2 envelopes)

    Estimate: $750 Realised Price : $600

    Postal History: 1870-71 two entire Letter Bills intended for Green Ponds handstamped 'MISSENT-TO/HOBART TOWN' in red and black respectively. The only other recorded examples are fragments, these being the only known complete 'pair' which sold for AU$1550+ in 2004. Ex McNamee and Reid
