    1938 (4 Aug) opening of Rose Bay Flying Boat base with 2d and 3d (fault) tied by Sydney cds, flown by 'Camilla' to Singapore and Imperial Airways onwards, showing very fine oval 'COMMEMORATING THE OFFICIAL OPENING/OF THE/EMPIRE AIR MAIL SERVICE/AUSTRALIA, 4th AUGUST, 1938' cachet in violet, AAMC 822b (cat AU$275), states 'a small number of VIP covers were in the mail and impressed with a four line cachet . . . wrongly stating it commemorated the opening of the Empire Air Mail Service'

    1941 (1 Dec) prisoner-of-war cover from Melbourne to Switzerland franked 1/6d airmail and 9d Platypus pair, with typed 'CLIPPER/Aust. U.S.A. Portugal' although too late for the last clipper to U.S.A. on this route, paying the very short-lived half-price 3/- POW rate via U.S.A.
