Lot 65		Estimate: $750 Realised Price : $1,100 1892 ‘SPECIMEN AND REPRINT STAMPS OF NEW SOUTH WALES WITH YEARS OF ISSUE’ printed sheet for sale to collectors (Series 388-92), with 38 stamps values to £1 and including the Postage Due set optd either ‘SPECIMEN’ or ‘Specimen’ (28, various types) or ‘REPRINT’ (10), few small tears and tone spots. Rare survivor This sheet was placed on sale to collectors in August 1892 for 20/-. Different sheets show some variations in the types of overprint found on the individual stamps

Various obsolete issues were reprinted to create a set of 32 different varieties sold for £2. 1000 sets were produced, of which 900 had the ‘NSW’ in concentric ovals cancellation, but following an outcry from collectors the stamps were withdrawn after only 159 sets had been sold and the balance was destroyed
